So I almost finished my application, and now all I have left is waiting.

to make waiting less painful, I just wanted to know what I should be expecting.

AP scholar with Honors.

I'm legal resident of Olympia WA and citizen of South Korea.

Also, is there no supplement essay for Engineering department applicants? that kinda weird not having to write an essay for a high level school.

Also, I know that RPI is a good engineering school, but how is their material science and nuclear science program? are those RPI's strong point? or are they not as great as other engineering program RPI provide.

and oh yea, how is Troy?

Wow. Besides swapping CR and WR scores on the SAT, taking chemistry SAT II instead of physics, and taking gov and macroeconomics instead of compsci, your academics look identical to what mine were 4 years ago. The extracurriculars are also not too far off.

Maybe I’m just being arrogant here, but you should probably expect acceptance. I got in with some meager scholarship amount, but a simple request granted me a significant monetary boost. I recommend you do the same if you think that the amount they gave you is too small.

I can’t tell you too much about the engineering/mat sci programs, though, but I can tell you that while Troy isn’t super great, there are enough things occurring on campus that you don’t need to enter the rest of Troy all too often (particularly now that both freshmen and sophomores are forced to live on campus). Personally, I didn’t find much reason to leave campus until this year, when I moved to an apartment and dropped the meal plan (which, by the way, isn’t something to look forward to).

Thank you for a reply. I have one more question though

You said that you can’t say much about Engineering program, then what program are you enrolled in? and how is that program?

I’m enrolled in both Computer Science and Math and they’re both fine, I guess. I’m not really sure what kind of information you are looking for.

A simple request? How do you request a bigger scholarship…?

I forgot who I had to email… the financial aid office maybe (fin_aid@rpi.edu, I believe)?

Hopefully you won’t need to go through that process, though.

What do you say though? “I’m very interested in attending RPI, but I can’t afford to pay $xx,xxx. Is it possible for the amount of financial aid to be raised?” or something like that? Why wouldn’t they just offer more if they could afford to give it? Why wouldn’t everyone just ask for more money?

I guess some people take the first offer without further asking for more, making it advantageous for RPI to first name higher price even though they are willing to lower it.

Btw. are you in RPI Pixelpusher? could you chance me?

Nope sorry, I’m just applying this year.

From what I hear, RPI lovessssssss seeing 800 in Math on the SAT’s. Probably one of the bigger things they look at. Odds are you’ll get in, so I wouldn’t worry too much. I have however seen similar stats get turned down at RPI in previous years.

Best of luck,

-Doom

Kimbh7… you should get in with those stats. My son is currently a ME major there and although a good student, wasn’t as academically strong. He also received a merit scholarship that was equivalent to one quarter the cost of attending for each of 4 years.

According to him, the facilities are excellent, and the professors mixed.

What I am concerned about is my GPA, which isn’t most strong, and even worse is my rank, of 50 out of 400 or so…

will my SAT and SAT2 be enough to cover up those demerits? I’m not sure.

Also, I need to get lots of scholarships to attend RPI, since I can’t get any FAFSA and need based grants being that I am a foreigner.

Out of total 50,000 dollar cost, I need at least 30,000 covered.

I’ll try to write a good essay and do what I can, but prospective does not look so good.
