24 Credits In A Semester?

In order to be eligible for transfer at my dream school, I must gain 24 credits by the end of the fall semester. How practical would it be to take 8 classes on my first semester. A lot of my classes are just “intro to. . .” or “communication 101”. I am a very dedicated student and have never had a problem hunkering down and doing what I need to do. Initially I was going to take 18 credits this semester and 6 over winter break but that would make me ineligible to go to the college as they need all 24 credits done in the fall prior to the spring semester. I am going to a college that is known to be an easier school and I think I would like to take the chance. I know I can do it but would like to hear some other opinions on the topic. Furthermore, if I do, do this, I think it wouldn’t hurt as I am a double major. Does this seem doable to do some of my major courses (such as calc and english) in conjunction with six other courses such as philosophy, a history, my art requirement, and an elective requirement? I really want to go to my dream school, I know it will be tough this semester, but with anything worth doing in life it will be tough. Thanks in advance for the information!

What college will you be attending? None that I know of permit students to take 24 credits in one semester. If you’re not planning to stay where you are take a gap year and find a school that’s a better fit.

Initially my plan. But I have had stellar grades all throughout high school, in IB and AP classes. I am hoping to take electives. I would love to take a gap year, but my parents stressed I couldn’t do that.

In another thread you said your SAT is 1180. Did you ever retake it? Your best bet is to focus on the school you’re attending. If you do well your first year you can apply to transfer to a school you like better.

Your previous posts indicate that you are from Virginia; are you still planing to go OOS to school? It seems you you need financial aid. If you go to Penn, you won’t get much in FA, especially given your parents income and your transfer status. If you are trying for NYU, the FA is poor.
Honestly, your stats aren’t strong.
Are you still planning on med school?

Twenty-four college units is hard to do in one semester because of the variety of busy work which impacts the time you will spend on actual work. You will have labs, both individual and group. Your teachers, in various courses, want group work to see if you can handle working in a team. The logistics can be a nightmare.
High school is NOTHING like college coursework. Each professor grades according to her/his standards and that can be very hard when they give you supplemental texts to read and research to complete.

When I took Comm 101, we had to do lots of research on the topic provided to us. Then we had to write a persuasive of informational argument and present these arguments in a speech to the class. This happened weekly, in one class, and did not include the rest of the the coursework from the classroom.

If you are planning on doing med school in the future, the 24 unit thing is a disaster, especially in a quarter system.

First I don’t know of any school that would allow this. Secondly you will end up failing classes… Not a smart plan.
