2nd semester junior year mess-up??

Hello! So far, I have gotten pretty good grades throughout high school, maintaining a 4.4-4.5 weighted gpa and and a 3.8-3.9 unweighted for freshman, sophomore, and the first half of junior year. However, I messed up 2nd semester junior year and got 2 B+'s and 2 B’s (as mentioned in an earlier post, my school has a hard grading scale so the B+'s would be considered A’s at the other schools in my area). My current UW GPA is now a 3.74 :frowning:

With all this being said, will that 1 semester of junior year ruin my chances at being accepted into my reach schools?? (Which are Notre Dame and Northwestern, Notre Dame being my number one choice). So far, I have been doing very well Senior year and plan on getting straight A’s for the first semester, which the colleges will see since I will be applying RD to most of them. If my first semester senior year grades rise as they are expected to, I will have a 3.8 UW gpa for the admissions process.

Everything else on my application is solid (ACT of 34, ec’s with leadership positions, volunteer service, etc.) but this gpa problem is freaking me out…

(Also I don’t know if this will help, but converted to a regular grading scale instead of the one at my private school, my gpa would be a 3.9)
And that’s my dilemma! I’ve been thinking non-stop about this gpa problem and it’s distracting me from fine-tuning my apps- any help would be much appreciated!!

Bump?

I am in the same boat.

Question-Can you go back in time to fix your GPA from that semester?

If the answer is NO, then stop worrying.

At this point there is nothing you can do. If you are spend time worrying and not fine-tuning your apps, you are most likely hurting your chances.

If you can’t fix something, then it’s time to cut your losses and try to improve on other fields.

There’s nothing that I, or anyone else, can say to magically make your GPA go higher. However, I can tell you that you should stop worrying before the rest of your precious time is wasted, when you should be doing some other activities to improve your chances.

@RMNiMiTz thank you for the response! Luckily, my 1st semester senior year grades were better, and I was able to send those along with my applications. At this time, I am all done with applying to universities, and I’ve been accepted to one of my top 2

Thank you for helping bring me back to reality in this admittedly crazy college admissions process!
