3 SAT IIs

if i took the new SAT and took 2 SAT IIs, do i need a third one because technically the writing from the new one should be the third one.

Nope, you still need a third. Bummer, eh?

Yea I know, it's terrible...I've taken Writing, Us History, Math IIC, and Biology, but I'm still taking one more (Literature) in November just for Yale because my writing score doesn't count and bio score is too low (650).

How's US History? I'm taking it on Sat. I took the AP class (and exam) in 10th grade and got a 5. Can I still do well on the SAT II, or should I cram?

Hm Gorbachev_Sez, I assume you're a senior so I would advise you to do a bit of review because history tends to fade in people's minds (unless you remember everything) I took AP USH last year, got a 4 on the exam, and took the SAT II in June and got a 760. Both scores are kinda eh but I didn't really study a lot- I just went through the Princeton Review book. But you got a 5 so you will probably do better =D Good luck on Saturday!

Do you have to know persnickety little details (e.g. the Gaspee Incident - definitely my favorite "incident" of US History)? Or is it more general?

Hmmm I don't think Gaspee Incident was on the test that I took, but I do recall specific questions. The questions were pretty similar to the ones on the AP exam, but easier.

I disagree. I got a 4 on the AP, but I bought a review book and took a practice test and it was far harder and more specific than anything I'd seen on the AP (didn't end up taking it because of this).

I think the review books always make the test seem harder than it really is, to better prepare you.

Auuuugh....

I've been looking at my old AP review book, and it asks all these questions about governors of colonies and stuff....I can't remember any of that!!!

Yeah, I agree review books always make the test seem harder. Sophomore year my world history book had me scared because I was getting 710s on my practice tests. I went in freaking out but pulled off an 800. Hopefully I'll have the same luck this weekend with US History.

Ditto on the World History.
The head of the Social Studies dept at our school says the SAT II is really easy, so I'm just going to look over the Jackson Era and forget about it. Stupid Jackson. For some reason I can never remember anything about his presidency, except for the crazy hair.

wait.. here's what it says on the yale website
"For students who will graduate high school in 2006, we encourage you to take the new SAT, though we will accept scores from the old SAT as well. We will continue to consider the highest score you receive on any individual test, even if one score was from the old SAT and one was from the new SAT. Regardless of whether you take the old or new SAT, you will still need to submit the scores from three SAT II tests. Students who will graduate high school in 2006 will be permitted to submit the SAT II Writing exam as one of the three required SAT II exams, regardless of whether they submit the old or new SAT."

Oh my God.....are you serious......I mean.....ARE YOU SERIOUS???????
BECAUSE THAT WOULD MAKE MY LIFE WORTH LIVING!

Edit: That sounds sarcastic, but it really isn't. I assumed I had to take another SAT II because I thought writing didn't count anymore. This means I've taken three! IN YOUR FACE, COLLEGE BOARD!

Also, where on the website does it say this?

Wait, I found it! It's in the FAQ's!

Park5378, I could totally kiss you right now! Provided that you're a guy!

sry I'm not a guy... I'm a gal
but good luck with your app!

Dang. Well, I spose I'll go kiss someone else, then. And then....spit on the SAT II that I thought I had to take on Saturday.

"Students who will graduate high school in 2006 will be permitted to submit the SAT II Writing exam as one of the three required SAT II exams, regardless of whether they submit the old or new SAT."
If I interpret this correctly, you would have had to take the OLD SAT II subject test in writing. If you take the new SAT I, you cannot separate it from the new test and therefore cannot count writing as one of your sat II subject tests. I wish I had taken the old writing test!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took it....

I just emailed the "student quesions" thing at Yale and they said that they were no longer accepting the writing SAT II! Talk about mixed messages!

My guidance counselor called the Yale Admissions Office and they told her that Writing did not count either. I was so upset because I thought I was done with SAT II's but it turns out I have to take another one in November. Oh well, it's the price of wanting to apply to Yale, I guess.
