34 ACT and 2100 SAT

Schools like Stanford require all scores are submitted. will they be botheredthat my SAT is less than my ACT fairly substantially? will they just take my higher score and disregard the lower one, or will they take both equally into account?

They will technically disregard the 2100 SAT score. But the fact is with a 2100 you’re undoubtedly below the median on at least 2 sections, so they will probably somehow take that into account.

Your 34 ACT is really solid though.

OK thats about what i was thinking too

You should be proud of yourself either way. Great scores man. Could I borrow them?

I wouldn’t just believe that Stanford is going to use that SAT score in some negative way. Your ACT is stronger - much stronger. That’s what they’ll use - especially if the ACT score was more recent, and the SAT score was from junior year. Schools expect to see increased scores as you age.

Schools don’t want to screw you. They want to be able to include your ACT 34 in their stats for incoming freshmen. They won’t be including your SAT stat in that formula.

your ACT + strong SAT IIs should compensate…

Most elite schools don’t distinguish between a 700 and a 720 in any particular subtest or SAT-II; they just want to know if you can do their work. If your 2100 means three 700 scores, I wouldn’t worry (700+ makes you competitive), but if there’s one score significantly less, then I’d retake the SAT (once more only, so you don’t look obsessive). Most elite schools “superscore” so taking it again won’t hurt. I’m not very familiar with Stanford, but I know how things work at HYPP/MIT. I know that there is little difference between three 700’s and three 800’s (my son) in terms of where he got in (he’s at MIT).

Congratulations to your son, neuron39. My SAT is pretty close to straight 700s: 730, 690, 680. My SAT2s are not stellar, but not horrible: 730, 720, 680. I appreciate all your help, thank you

Oh, and my SAT and ACT were both taken in June, so technically, my ACT was more recent. if only by a week ;)
