Haha, it's looking grim guys. I have no cool extracurriculars, just the academic performance.

I got a -great- letter of recommendation from our college's history professor who has won a ton of awards, and my essays are quite good, but I still think I have like a 1% chance.

What about you guys? I know several people here applied too.

I actually thought 350 regent apps was not that much, I was expecting a lot more people to compete against.

Idk my chance. I have a work-study job, honors program, honors project, independent research with professor last quarter, econ stat analysis research assistant, I don’t remember what else.
My letter of rec was from my professor who spoke about my research with him, my regent app essay was good…in comparison to Prompt #2 of the UC app, prompt 1 was above decent.

idk though, there only being 50 slots is pretty competitive. I’m more worried about getting into UCLA than getting the scholarship though.

for me i actually dont really care about regents. i had all the stuff submitted by April fool
just a superstition that it wont ruin my chance to get in UCLA if i dont submit one.

I’m feeling pretty pessimistic about my chances at this point. I figure that everyone who got the invitation for this scholarship is going to be the best of the best, with amazing essays and extracurriculars and recommendations… My application felt pretty weak. :(

Was your lack of confidence reflected in the effort you put into the supplemental essay, @Acuvue? Sure the outside factors - extracurriculars and such - that add to one’s application are probably huge for this prestigious opportunity, but considering this scholarship is almost entirely off the strength of one’s GPA (selection-wise anyway), I feel a good essay may go a long way in the selection process.

After all, they’re essentially evaluating your potential for success. It’d be silly to assume that the essay didn’t matter and they only looked at the application which netted the invitation offer in the first place, as why would there be an additional application process then? Stats-aside, 1/7 (50/350) isn’t “against all odds.” Maybe some past Scholars could chime in.

Now if this were for Berkeley… Another story, considering they evaluate you top-to-bottom for their Regents’. But they have some sort of interview rather than another essay, correct?

yes, any past/present UCLA transfer regents scholars here know what aspects they most significantly evaluate, or how competitive it is generally?

Does the Committee look at your entire admissions application? Or just certain parts? I didn’t really like the second essay I wrote for the original admissions app, hope they don’t read it!

You could still get. I believe they focus a lot on the essay and the letter of rec, because they go off the application when inviting people to apply, but it’s still important. I got it last year and my extra circulars were not very strong, I just had good grades and good essays.

The “Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship Program” page under the financial aid section states the candidate selection period is from February to April, so they should come out soon enough.

I hope they haven’t sent them out yet, I want one. ;_;
