$4-15k UCLA Alumni Scholarship

...250 get it, but how many usually apply?

Thx

IDK, i got the letter invite, does every applicant get it? My brother was a finalist for the Cal Alumni scholarship, I'll ask him how that went and get back to you.

vc08, you got a letter from UCLA? Are you a Fall 2008 applicant? when'd you receive the letter?

I got an email talking about how I got above a 3.5 and qualify for some scholarships. All I have to do is check what I qualify for and submit like a 500 word statement + lists of accomplishments + list of ec's. How likely am I to get some $$ (I'm out of state)?

Whoa, what are the criteria for getting that email?

dt: yes, fall 2008 applicant, 3.97 uw GPA, 31 ACT. received Wed. IDK if they only send those to qualified applicants though, or if everyone gets one...It mentioned my community service and leadership ability, if that means anything.

LAX: scholarships are much harder to get OOS, bc they give the best finaid to in-state students first. IDK your stats though, if they are incredible you might get some (but even then, most are <5,000)

Lax, I don't know about other scholarships, but for this one you must be an in-state applicant. It says:

"All California UCLA freshman applicants for fall 2007 are eligible to apply for Freshman Alumni Scholarships. Applicants must be attending UCLA the fall quarter immediately after graduating from a California high school..."

But that makes it sound like anyone can apply. If that's the case, why did only select applicants get the email about it??

Did only select people get it? I got one but it seems like a lot of others did, too

Oh, do you guys think receiving this email had anything to do with those boxes you checked on the application for possible scholarships? The ones that were like "Student who has demonstrated leadership in a campus organization" and "Student who has demonstrated academic excellence as well as leadership in extracurricular activities"?

Hmm, could be. Although I haven't gotten them from each campus, only a few, so that kinda makes me wonder...

Mine is different scholarship thing than all of yours.

For continuing students with a gpa > 3.5

That's only for continuing students. Right?

kristina: my guess is that they send it out to higher-tier applicants in order to get them interested...probably the top 40% or so. just a guess though, it seems like a lot of applicants try and do that.

is this alumni scholars club? zzzzzz

I got the alumni email as well. Does this, perhaps, predict your admissions decision?

Damn my out-of-stateness...the only Alumni Orgs that give money to OOS are in NY, AZ, Boston, Chicago, Hawaii, and Oregon. And I am from none of those places (damnit Jersey, so close to NY yet so far!)

zotan, i don't think it predicts your admission decision. I believe they state that in the email. (or they have in the past, when i applied)

whooo just got the email :D

thanks

man this is like applying to university all over again , oh well, it's worth it

best of luck to everyone
