Based on some stuff I've been seeing in the forum, it looks like people are considering a 740 on a subject test to be a "bad" score, worthy of a re-take. Is this really true? 740's on all 3 sections of the SAT reasoning test would result in a fine score.
I got a 740 on the SAT Lit. would this score really hurt me in applying to schools like duke, brown, penn, etc?

Thanks!

Well a 740, especially in literature, is not bad at all. Literature is known to be one of the hardest, if not hardest, subject tests to take. I’m not sure if colleges really pay attention closely to the type of subject test you take and guage your respective scores based on the test difficulty, but it definitely is NOT a bad score. A 750+ is generally regarded as a favorable score and yours is pretty damn close.

Btw a 740 is in the 92%. <a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools;

is it worth sending?

Princess,
You should be proud of your score. You did great. Send the score !!!

740 on Lit is very strong and you should send it. It’s not the same as 740 on Chem or Math Level 2, for example.

Okay, thanks a lot!

It’s not bad, but it’s not great either. i mean a 780+ is good for those colleges, but 740 is viable too if the other subject test scores are pretty good too

FYI, lichen2347 is a ■■■■■. 740 is fine.

haha okay, thanks for the comfort!

If I got that score I would spend weeks crying over it-- because I was so happy! Good job, good luck with admissions :)

Outside of the obsessive/compulsed/overcompensated world of CC…a 740 is amazing. Congratulations.

(I teach AP Lit prep and do college counseling, fwiw–lichen2347 is dead wrong on this)
