don't retake it
not worth is for the 10 points
and colleges will think you are crazy

I and most of my friends took it sophomore year too, some even took it freshmen year
everyone in my math class from my grade or below got an 800!
790 is just as good though
colleges will probably put you in the same group of people as the 800
cuz 10 points isn't gonna make a difference
if you have the time, study for another subject or something

Ignoring the above posts, there is no need to retake math 2. The admissions officer looking at your application won't distinguish a 790 from an 800; as you said before, it's really a one-question difference, there's nothing to worry about.

Ignore all the people telling you that you are annoying. 790 is a solid score, and it is true that most colleges will not care. You're aiming for the top colleges, however, and while I doubt the 10 points will make the difference, you always want to appear the best.

Should your retake the test? That depends on you. If you know you can get the 800, if you love math and feel horrible about the 790, if it will make you feel better, take it. Many of my friends at school don't understand why I would sometimes feel bad about great scores. I know they are great, but I know I can do better. There is nothing wrong about that.

Use your own judgment and don't depends on ours. Only you know yourself and your expectations best.

I don't think it will matter if you retake. If it will clear your consious than go ahead. The good thing about 800 is college's don't know if you missed 0 or 5. In that way you can "hide" and even if you only got 90% of the questions right, colleges can't see that and can't differentiate. The problem with 790 mainly the number of questions. Someone with an 800 could miss 6 fewer questions that someone with an 790. A 790 is 88% of the questions right, which for a serious math school on a relatively easy test is questionable, and no one wants questionable. Get an 800, and they won't think anything of it.

780 is not significantly different from 800 with regards to an SAT subject test.
If you really love taking tests so much, study for and take a new SAT subject test.

Why should he do that? He is annoying, and I sincerely think he should consider working on that. In addition to perfecting his SAT score, he should try to improve other aspects of himself as well, no? It IS highly annoying to rub your SAT scores in other people's face and then have the audacity to complain about them even though the vast, vast majority of the population, even the majority on CC, would die for that score. It is annoying, I make no apologies for saying so, and if you have your opinion state it but dont belittle what i said just because you disagree. you may not find his ridiculous post annoying, but i and most people would. and also, he's probably a troll anyway:D

stix2400,
A 790 does NOT indicate the OP got 88% of the questions correct. An 88th %tile indicates that he/she scored higher than 88% of the students taking the test. BIG difference. An 800 on Math Level II gets you the 90th %tile -- not much difference. If the OP is planning to take math beyond BC Calc, I would posit that Math Level II scores are even more irrelevant.

The curve on Math Level II tends to allow up to eight questions wrong for an 800 score. Trying again might get an 800, might not. Personally, I'd say work on the SAT Math and leave the Math II alone, becaue the SAT doesn't have such a nice curve. Miss one question on that and the 800 is gone!

My kids' schools recommend taking Math II as soon as one finishes pre-calc. If the OP got a 790 without pre-calc, then I might consider re-taking after finishing that course.

if you don't have any friends, you would retake it
if my parents were your parents, they would make you retake it
therefore, my parents don't want me to have any friends

since you have friends, and my parents aren't your parents, don't retake it

I would retake it if you are seious about the top 3. It will also display a total mastery. A 790 could be achieved while missing 4-5 (not perfect).

If you are aiming for these top schools, you should enjoy math, so retaking should not be a painful experience.

I got a 790 years ago too, and wish I could go back to retake for a 800.

a 790 is a great score, and previous threads are right, most people would die for that scpre, so stop whining and if you really feel like takin a test, then just take another one
