Now that the college admission process is over, I want to thank all the cc parents who have helped me with the process. I come from a rural community with an undistinguished public high school. Because of the nature of our community, our guidance services are geared more towards helping kids who are on the verge of dropping out than they are towards guiding students through the process of applying to highly selective schools. My parents have always been incredibly supportive of my dreams, but since my father went to an agricultural school and my mother attended nursing school, their own knowledge of the competitive nature of the process and of the ins ands outs of financial aid is limited. I was often lost and the knowledgeable parents on cc always seemed to be there to point me in the right direction.

I have been accepted to Colgate, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Hamilton, Harvard, and Princeton and I have decided to attend Princeton, with an incredibly generous aid offer. I have worked hard these past four years, but without the help I have received from the folks on cc I am sure that I would not have these wonderful choices.

First and foremost a HUGE thank you to Carolyn. Carolyn was kind enough to answer (at length) several pm's from me, a kid she didn't know from Adam. Her generosity with her time and knowledge still amazes me. I also learned so much from her many posts and very informative website. Carolyn is a cc treasure!

I also want to thank Cookiemom who pm'd me early in the process and offered some sound and timely advice on the recruiting process. Her advice was incredibly helpful.

I have learned so much from so many posters. I found Marite's and Sybbie's posts to be particularly helpful. Both Marite and Sybbie just seem to know so much about so many different things -- admissions, college life, course selection, financial aid, and even study skills (I have bookmarked for next year Sybbie's incredibly useful post on study skills and note taking). I particularly appreciate how down to earth these two posters always seem -- calm voices of reason amidst a lot of anxiety.

CC parents, thank you so much! I am not sure that you realize just how valuable a resource you are for me and for many other kids as well -- coldcomfort

Wow! Such great admissions for a kid from "a rural community with an undistinguished public high school." You, your parents and your teachers must have done something really right. You are an inspiration to all students. Enjoy your years at Princeton. It is a wonderful school.

Wow! Congrats on choosing Princeton, and on your great admittances. Its a posting like yours that makes all of us parents here glad this site exists.

Congratulations, Coldcomfort, on the options that you have. It was nice of you to show appreciation and to let everyone know how CC parents helped. Please give us updates after college starts. Best of luck on your post high school journey!

A big oops! There is one HUGE thank you that I forgot, to Soozievt who answered more than one pm about athletics and coaches at Brown and who even volunteered her daughter to ask her friends for some more info for me -- thank you so much, Soozievt. She is another one of those posters who is both incredibly knowledgeable and incredibly generous with her knowledge and I feel like a heel for not mentioning her in my first post. My apologies and my thanks -- coldcomfort

Congrats on choosing Princeton (yep it is Hanover's loss but I understand). I know that you can and will do amazing things. Hey I am right in NYC a train ride away. Alu and I will meet up with you and AluD and hang out in the city. Now on to all of those graduation events. Enjoy every moment.

Yes! Coldcomfort welcome to Princeton! Sybbie, thanks for the shoutout.

AluD is absolutely intoxicated with Princeton. Imagine you can go to a ridiculous party with brilliant kids, meet with brilliant professors, find your own brilliance on a May day in your dorm room as you look out the window at the sunshine. Well, that's Princeton. Congrats!!!!!

Wow, I just came across this thread and CONGRATULATIONS to you coldcomfort!!! It is so wonderful to read of your admissions outcome and I remember you well and was wondering how it all turned out for you. Your acceptances are quite impressive and speak to all you have accomplished in life so far. Like you, my kids went to a rural undistinguised HS where very few kids go onto selective colleges (there is often a small handful each year).

You had awesome choices and Princeton is going to be fantastic. I have seen the beautiful campus and of course, the school itself is outstanding. My D liked it and was waitlisted there. You are going to have an amazing time.

I also find it refreshing to see a young person show appreciation to the adults who helped her in some fashion. It speaks to your character. I am sure these fine colleges saw that in you.

I'm excited for you and am glad that you shared you plans here. Please stop by in the fall and let us know how it is going. Enjoy the remainder of senior year and the adventures of getting ready to go to PRINCETON!

Congratulations!!!!!!!! I don't remember my advice, but I'm glad it helped. Hopefully, I'll get to meet you at a race next fall. Cookieson rows for Princeton, so I'm sure you'll be running in to each other in the boathouse. You made a great choice.
