My two recs are already submitted but I was thinking about asking another teacher who also knows me personally to write a rec for me. Is it a bad idea to send in an extra rec?

it's bad if your third rec contributes no new insight and ends up being extra paperwork for the adcom, obviously

but if you feel that there's a side of you that only this third teacher can reveal, then I'd say go for it (the vast majority of schools don't prohibit additional recs). just make sure he/she has something meaningful to say

personally I got a third from my art teacher, and my counselor supported the idea

I sent a third rec because it would go into aspects of me that my regular teachers' recs wouldn't. Most people at my school did 2 teacher recs and 1 personal rec. If you think the third rec will talk about something the others didn't, then go ahead and send it.
