Hi everyone.
I am now a freshman in UCSC, and I am thinking about transferring to NYU(and some other UCs) as a junior, NYU as my top choice.
The reason I want to transfer is that I'm just very tired of living in a suburb(or a forest).
I am desperately in need with some CITY ACTION.

I didn't apply for NYU last year.
Ok, so here are my stats.

My High School GPA was 3.7 weighted, 3.5 unweighted.
SAT taken Senior year in High School: 1790 cumulative. (PS: English not my native language). Should I send it or should I not? should I retake it if I am transferring as a junior?
TOFEL: 100/120
SAT 2s: 800chinese, 660 Biology (do we need this?)

Here are my College records:

De anza community college:
A Intro to Fiction
A European Art History

UCSC:

1st quarter

B+ American Studies
B- Technothrillers
C+ Core course(writing class for all freshman in UCSC)
Pass Ballet 1
Pass Grammar and Editing

Now I am kind of worried for this C+, but I'm pretty sure the teacher wrote me a great evaluation and stuff and I only got the C+ because of my grammar skills and the fact that I didn't pass the entrance writing exam.(I asked the Teacher about it, he told me that grammar was basically the problem. I am pretty sure if I ask him for a rec. he would write it for me). Will this C+ cause my admission? I mean it might not even be counted in my GPA because its a core course just for UCSC. If so, what can I do to fix my GPA? Take more community classes?

Next quarter:

Calculus for tech.
Jewish writing in Venice
Writing 20A
Ballet

Ok, so give me some advice, I would really appreciate it.

Yeah, it might be a good idea to transfer as a junior, just so you can show your improvement. However, you definitely will need to work harder in college. Applying as a junior is only worth it if you're actually getting good grades, so waiting a year and a half won't be valuable, especially with your first quarter grades. Even though you seem to be worrying about your C+, your B and B+ (in culmination with your C+) unfortunately are not up to NYU par. I believe a competitive applicant for nyu should have a college gpa of 3.7 + (obviously this varies from person to person). Core classes do count for something, whether you're good at them or not, because they're pretty standard classes that most students should be able to exceed in. Plus, even though you're taking 5 classes, having had two of them as pass fail won't make your record look as good as it could be either. Basically, you need to really improve your grades - thats the best advice I think I can give you, and continue to work hard. At this point, I think it would be a fairly large reach, but you still have time to improve. Good luck Paddy!

so your applying to nyu with what, a 2.8 or something with 2 classes taken p/f? thats not even in the ballpark...your sat's will hurt you as well...as the above poster said, the C+ will hurt you, but so will the B- and even the B+

again, as Josh said above, put in 2 years of 3.7+ work and you could have a shot...but your current college performance and sat scores are going to be too low for nyu for soph. admissions

Well having done poorly at ucsc, and doing well at community college, won't exactly look good to any adcom. You should be doing well in BOTH, not just community college classes.

Thanks again NYUjosh.
I know that my first quarter grades wasn't that great.
I am just wondering if it is still possible with those grades on my record, even if I get straight As for the rest of my years in UCSC.

if you get straight A's from here on out you will certainly have a very good shot. but you have to be honest with yourself and ask whether you are capable of doing that.
