A1/A2 languages..

Hi, I<code>m going to be doing IB next year, but I still haven</code>t decided what to do for my A1/A2 languages.
(A1: native language, basically like an AP English class
A2: near native, with some lit analysis, but not as much as A1)
I have to do both in order to complete the diploma.
Basically, my 2 languages are English and Japanese, but I have no idea which lang. to do for A1 and which to for A2. (so, the different combos are A1 English /A2 Japanese , or A1 Japanese /A2 English )
The thing is, I speak both languages EQUALLY, so it<code>s really hard for me to decide.
My English teacher said that doing A1 English would be better prep for me in terms of my future, as I am planning to studying in the US after graduating.
However, some people have told me that doing A1 Japanese will make me more</code>unique`, as many people do A1 English.
Any opinions/advice would be helpful! Thanks in advance!

<p>I would pick the literature you like better. Even though I know, they vary so so much, and in IB you have to do lit in translation anyway. Can you ask teachers for the reading lists and pick the ones that look most interesting to you?</p>

<p>Also, are you at a school where you would have a class for any of these options? As opposed to having to self-study. At my school, most kids who are equally proficient in their native language and (in this case) English do A1 English because a) taking the class is easier than having to self-study something else on their own, and b) many, though there are a couple exceptions, are more comfortable doing the literary stuff in English because that's the language they learned it in.</p>

<p>I don't think A1 Japanese would put you at any disadvantage for studying in the US, so don't let that be too much of a concern. Especially if the rest of your courses are taught in English? No matter what combination you choose it'll go on the record as a "bilingual diploma."</p>

<p>Failing that...flip a coin?</p>
