Aw my god. This is like endless tension week #1. I'm not sure if the constant storm of....somewhat information...is helping.

"No one has been rejected or deferred yet"

Yeah, but no one has been accepted yet either...

oh well...possibly no school tmrw for me atleast. I'm happy =) for now

no school?
The snow is barely sticking where I live : ...

Heart...implosion...ready...

Haha I'm thinking of excuses to stay home Monday till whenever next week just to wait for the mail. I don't get home until 7 PM (clubs and all that stuff). For some reason I wouldn't want to stand my mom picking me up, knowing she knows the MIT decision; the car ride would be to awkward. If only I could wish for a snow day... San Diego still has highs of 70 ::sighs:: Hmm, maybe I'll just fake some kind of sickness.

You could try (as a senior and all) getting your driver's liscense.

No snow in Florida but my school allows upperclassmen to go off campus during lunch. I normally don't leave because food is more expensive elsewhere than in the dining hall, but I'll be racing home each day to check the mail next week. (Fortunately, my mail is delivered around noon each day.)

He probably does drive. It's more likely that he doesn't have a car and/or the school doesn't allow students to drive themselves. My school has only allowed students to drive themselves to school for about 10 years now.

School is 30 minutes away (gas is $3.00 a gallon). The only parking is UCSD parking, which is 100 a month or so. I think I'll pass on driving to school. We have school buses, that drop me off about 2 miles away from my house.

Hope. Applications are like Pandora's box, people.

Think about this.

3000 EA applications.
~450 admitted?
15%

1 in 7 people will be denied or deferred.

But yet every person on this forum, every person who applied, is going to rush to their mailbox next week, expecting (hoping) to see that large envelope. The problem is that 6/7 will be dissapointed. That's huge. For many people, being in that 6/7 is a crush to their dreams. It means that they more college apps to complete over Christmas break and they will not know their destinies until Spring.

But for the 1/7 who recieve that phat package, it's total bliss, knowing your college seeking is done. And all of the 3000 people who applied hold out for that ~14% chance that they will be part of the MIT Class of 2010.

But people are so willing to hope, so many people are riding on that chance, that it truely shows glory in the human spirit.

well, you could say that...
but even if some of those 1/7 EA people were still accepted, they'd still have to apply to other schools...well, only if they needed financial aid.

We do have to choose the best packages, regardless...
and there is a two-hour delay now. yay.

I posted this on another thread. A couple of years ago an applicant put a webcam in his mailbox so he could check the mail during the day at school. This is what the acceptance envelope looked like. http://tjhsst.edu/~jgrafton/mitcam/

it's like a golden ticket to willy wonka's chocolate factory

;_; gimme....

: o I'm being greedy,
willy wonka's gonna turn me into a chocolate.

Wow... that's a lot of readings for Ms. Jones

Sorry folks...but this year it will be more like 8 of 9 will be deferrals/denies. Unless MIT is substantially raising it's freshman admissions target number.

So chances are more like 10-12% on the EA round this year. :(

why 11????? nooooo... i wonder if the sheet they had about the interview is true, the % of admits with interviews was 23, vs. 11 without unless it was waived

is it just me or does anyone else hyperventilate whenever they think about mit's decision??? im going crazy

Why should "waiving" the interview have an effect on admissions if the only (supposed) reason interviewees are admitted at a higher rate is that the people who interview add another personal dimension to their apps?

Unless some preference beyond just having more information is given to those who go through the interview, I don't see the point of having an interview "waived."

I'm going crazy as well.

A conversation found on one of the student blogs on MIT

Matt: "Hey! Are these benches new?"
Sam: "I don't know... I've never sat in Lobby 10 before. What are you up to?
Matt: "Rejecting people."
Sam: "Oh. Admitting any?"
Matt: "Yeah, a few, I guess. Well, I've got to go get something in my stomach. Bye!"
Sam: "Later!"
