About GPA

Would a 3.5 unweighted put me out of the running for UC Berkeley, UVA, Georgetown, NYU, UMichigan, UChicago, Ivies, etc. (top tier schools basically)? Thanks.

What grade are you in? If jR. year then, yeah, to be blunt, you’re screwed. We have to be realistic here bud. If you can improve to a 3.7ish, than you’ve got a fightin chance

Actually, no. We don’t know anything about you… your SAT or ACT scores can be phenomenal as well as ECs and everything else. But like the above poster said, if you are not a rising senior, definitely get your grades up

No^^^ 3.5 is pretty serious. In an (average) case, it’s something that makes adcoms scratch their heads. I mean, unless he’s one of those super rare kids who like own a multi-million dollar business or something

Wait, how do you mean pretty serious? And btw, I got a 34 on ACT (which might make up for GPA)

Not THAT much. I mean, it won’t compensate a 3.8 GPA. But ultimately, applying at top colleges, you could easily be outdone by someone else.

It also depends on the difficulty of your school and the rigor of your schedule. If you’re getting a 3.5 GPA at one of the top schools in the country with its toughest schedule, you’re fine. Your SATs, SAT IIs, hook(s) (URM, legacy, etc.), and ECs are also needed to make a good judgment.

Yeah. However I think here on CC we mostly assume that the majority of kids here go to typical public schools. It would be helpful on chance threads if people posted their school type.

My school is around 53rd in the country
