Academic Honors/Awards?

What qualifies?

I am on board for Spanish National Honors society, is that an honor?

I was invited to help run an anti-drug program at my old middle school, is that an honor?

I was MVP of one of my JV volleyball tournaments. honor?

My science department gives out certificates to basically anyone who gets an A in science. There's an after school sundae-making party at the end of the year for it. honor?

I mean I go to a public high school, and it's not like there are any annual "student of the year" awards or "most improved" or whatever. For graduating seniors there are tons of awards at the end of the year, but at that point they are all done with their applications. So when I start applying for colleges next year (im a junior right now), what kinds of things am i supposed to put on applications when it says "academic awards/honors"?

Spanish NHS - yes
anti drug - not really academic so it sounds more like an EC to me.
MVP - definitely not academic, sports go under ECs.
Science certificate - yes

I totally understand about the lack of academic honors given at many public HSs, ours was the same. NHS and AP Scholar are two that might be possible before apps are due. Also, if your state has any competitions for math, etc., that's a possibility.

what about, like, finishing 4th at state qualifying journalism competition? i didn't qualify but i was one away... no awards or anything. is it something to put down anyway?
