When did you get your Colorado license?

You don't need to have a Colorado license to drive there, if that's what you're referring to. You can use the one from your home state. In the military, you never have to get a new one when you move to different states. That'd be a huge hassle, considering how frequently military personnel change stations.

Beside getting a Colorado license can have tax implications. Getting the license usually (there are military exceptions) means accepting residency in the state. Colorado has a personal income tax, not all states do. Colorado license could mean one less pizza a month.

Even better is the fact that military can rent cars at age 18. The rest of you must wait until 21. Most of the rental companies are very good about that. My son has done this a few times.

Yup, I have rented a car to go ski at keystone. Great deal, inexpensive too since they waiver the young driver fees as well.

Is there a rental agency nearby, or do you have to go to COS to rent the car?

I believe there are rental cars available at the AFA. I am not sure on how to insert a link to this post but try calling the info below:

The car rental places are AAFES vendors. By contract the have space on base. Last time I remember looking at one while in FL it was a Budget. They change every few years due to contract changes. At Ramstein it is SIXIT.

Tickets and tours is place you go to get discount tickets to Disney, Busch Gardens and Sea World. They also have tours and trips. Like a ski trip to Vail or a bus trip to Vegas. It is good place to go if want to plan a trip also, they have many discounts things like lift tickets, hotel discounts and tourist books.

The Academy Hotel (right near the south gate) has an Enterprise Rental office that my son has used. Easy to get there and back again. Note: your insurance company may have to approve your being able to rent and that should be done in advance (the first time) but it shoudln't be a problem.

What would be the best mode of transportation to get from USAFA to Denver Airport, leaving USAFA around 5PM on a weekday? SuperShuttle? Are there any other public/USAFA transportation means available? Some of my family members will only be able to stay through the Monday of one of the orientation sessions and then will have to get back to Denver airport that evening.

You can rent cars through Advantage and Enterprise at the Outdoor Rec Center in Vandenberg Hall. Enterprise is at the Academy hotel and requires you have insurance, Advantage is downtown and you can buy insurance through them. Both have shuttles that leave from the field house at 1900 on Fridays.
