Acceptance based on Majors?

So my son applied RD to UMASS. Obviously I know we won’t here until March. Curious to know how much his major is a part of the accepted/denied decision with the college.

His major is Turf Management (Bachelor) with the Stockbridge School of Agriculture.

ACT 24

GPA 3.4 (unweighted) honors

26th in his class (weighted)

Tech school (Horticulture with awards at national conventions).

Work 3 years (in the field).

Also applied to

Florida Southern (accepted) but they removed turf from their majors so he won’t go there

DelVal (accepted) interested but expensive…did get a 17k/ year merit scholarship

UConn waiting to hear

Univ. of Georgia waiting to hear

I know programs like nursing, business, etc. are competitive so therefor, harder to get into.

When we went to the open house, they said there are between 250-300 kids in Stockbridge but they never have over limit applicants.

It’s his first choice!

Thanks!

I have a feeling that the major has a decent part of the acceptance/rejection, as I was accepted to the school as a undeclared major but rejected from Computer Science (1st choice) and Engineering (Computer Systems) 2nd Choice. So I think that they see if you have the stats to get into the college and then the selected major, I could easily be wrong though.

@UFeelMe‌ You are very correct. I was also concerned about this and contacted the school. The admissions lady told me that if you are rejected from your choices that they review you for undeclared.
