ACCEPTED! East Carolina U Class of 2013

D was so excited yesterday, she received her acceptance to the Fall 2013 class at ECU!

Anyone else??

Congrats to your D. It is exciting isn't it? It's so nice to get accpeted early..takes some pressure off. Will your D attend ECU or is she waiting to hear from other applications to make a decision?

As soon as she gets an ECU ID # she can join the ECU Facebook group if she's interested. S2 joined one (for newly accepted students) last year after his acceptance and "met" lots of people.

She went on Facebook but did not see a group set up for the Class of 2013 yet.

She is leaning heavily on ECU. UCF is her #1 choice but she was deferred for Summer 2009 but would rather start in Fall 2009. She takes the ACT again tomorrow in hopes to bump up her score for UCF, but today she thought about how much ECU has to offer for Fall, versus UCF for Summer and missing out on spending the last summer with high school friends that she has known since kindergarten.

The only thing that worries her is that she'll be stuck in North Carolina the rest of her life. She sees herself working is a large city resort (she's taking Hospitality/Event Management). She has alot of thinking to do. She also applied to FSU but won't hear back from them until the first week of December.

She signed up for her Pirate email address and we received a small package asking her to send in $100 non-refundable deposit.

Are you instate for FL? I was assumimg NJ.
So UCF said she was accepted if she came for summer sch. immediately after graduating high sch? Have never heard of that kind of offer.

NC schools often defer kids until Spring semester (offering to let them start in Jan. instead of Aug.). It's a tough choice. I guess it depends on how badly she wants UCF.
Good luck on the ACT. Maybe she'll get UCF after all.

Why would she think going to school at ECU in NC would mean she would be "stuck" here for the rest of her life (trying hard not to be offended by that one, lol) ? Kids come from all over and leave after grad. She could take her degree anywhere.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone, just that she thinks that if she goes to school in NC that she will live the rest of her life in NC. She has lived in NJ all her life and visits Florida a few times a year to visit family, so Florida is like a second home. The only time she's been to NC was when she visited ECU. I think reality is setting in that she'll be moving to a new State where she will not know anyone or anywhere.

Yes we are in NJ and she applied for Summer at UCF because the admissions criteria is not as competitive as Fall. She was deferred because UCF wants to see her test scores improve, which she is taking today, the ACT.

This is all new to us, she is first generation college student and we're not even sure what to do next now that we have the acceptance. I'm trying to find out information at ECU as to when housing is assigned so she can get in right away.

JerseyShoreMom, Not to worry. I was joking about being offended.

So she applied for summer and was deferred... Now I get it,duh!

I sent in the $100 soon after S2 was admitted (early Nov.'07). A big booklet about housing and dining came in Dec. I'm not sure if we got it so quickly because we sent in the $100 right away or not.

When you get the info., Fill it out and get it in early. This year's freshman class turned out to be so large that they initially didn't have enough dorm space and had to put 200 freshman up in a nearby apt. complex unitl space opened up in the dorms. S2 had two friends who were assigned to the apt. complex. One got an on campus room after 10 days and another after a few weeks. Both of those kids waited until very close to the deadline (May 1) to send their housing form in. It's a first come, first served thing. So don't wait! There is no housing deposit required, so you haven't lost anything by sending in early even if your D ends up at another sch.

You don't receive the actual dorm/room assigment until June.

Your D might be surprised at how many out of state kids there are at ECU. I went to ECU in the early 80's. My freshman yr. roommate was from NY and one of the girls next door who bacame a good friend was from NJ (Basking Ridge). I knew another girl from Elizabeth and had a friend from Pittsburgh PA. There are lots of kids from VA also. S2 met a girl at Orientation from California (parents went to ECU). Of course the majority are from NC but other states are well represented. ECU's website says that 16.4% of it's freshman are from out of state.

I smiled when I saw your screen name because I had never heard the beach referred to as "the shore" until I met my NJ friend freshman yr. I had a lot of fun at ECU with that Jersey girl!

Yes, in New Jersey when you live on the beach you live "down the shore". lol.

D is getting excited about coming to ECU. I think it's THE college. Luckily, she applied to 10 and is waiting for responses from 7 so she should have definate decisions from schools by the beginning of December.

D and my husband toured ECU. Out of 10 or more schools that D and I toured, this is the ONLY campus I missed seeing! I love to pick up pamphlets and such and D and H came back with nothing for me to read about :(

Do you know if there are freshman only dorms and what other dorms are available for freshman?

Have you considered going to an open house at ECU? Flights to RDU airport are much less then Greenville they have open houses on saturdays I think.

There is only one freshman dorm (Garrett) at ECU. It is only for freshman who choose to participate in the First Year Experience program. I don't know a lot about it. S wasn't interested. I think it's basically a "helping you start off well in college" program where they have a lot of group activities.

There is one dorm (College Hill Suites) that is for upperclassmen only. All the rest are open to freshman. There is one all female dorm (Clement) and one all male dorm (Scott, ). All the other dorms are coed by floors. The dorms are in three areas of campus (West End, Central Campus and College Hill). The housing application lets you choose an area but not a specific dorm (unless it's changed this yr.).
If you go to the ECU website, click on future students, scroll down and click on housing/dining, you can see some pictures and descriptions.

My daughter and husband flew down earlier this month and took a campus tour and a dorm tour. They are AWFUL at touring, I was much better over the summer when I picked up pamphlets, took pictures, etc. D and H looked around and D loved it. That's all I know about the college! :P I hate that I missed the campus tour but I had to stay home with D2.

Thanks PackMom, I asked D and H where the freshman dorms are on the campus map and they were clueless.

I think dorm signups start in November. Anyone else waitig for dorm sign-up?

hi jersey and pack =]

i got accepted recently as well. only, ive got about a semester knocked out from dual enrollment, so im going in the spring of 2009 and im gonna get all my general classes out of the way during the spring and summer so in the fall i can be a sophomore.

im waiting for a dorm, but i'll take what i can get. i called up the school and they said dorm information would be up the first week of november.

the only thing im really wanting to know is when do i sign up for my classes for the spring?

xx3nessa3xx, Registration (for Spring sem,) for current freshman starts this Friday.
You have to have a pin number from your advisor to access the online regiatration page. I think you should call ECU admissions office and explain your situation. I'm sure they can steer you in the right direction.

where would i get a pin # and adviser? when i log onto onestop, it only shows home and tools. am i supposed to pay the $100 tuition fee first?

oh and btw packmom, whenever i call ecu, i get the switch board and ask for admissions, then i push 2 to ask to speak with someone in admissions, but no one picks up. i figure its because they are so busy with registration

Yes, you have to pay the $100. That is what shows the school that you plan to enroll.
If you have not done that ECU has no idea that you plan to attend in the Spring.

Call 252-744-2271 (admissions office number to asst. administrator)

Find out if there any sort of Orientation for freshmen starting in the Spring Semester.
S got set up with the pin # and how to use Banner registration when he was at Orientation during the summer.

thanks. i will call tomorrow. i sent the $100 this morning so hopefully they get it tomorrow or something because i would like to know what im going to be taking!

D received Fall 2009 admittance. Should she sent in the $100 now or in December when she makes a final decision. How will this affect housing sign-ups, which I think are next month too.

D really wants to go to ECU, it's #3 on the list, but she's waiting on 2 reach schools that do not make an admissions decision until the first week of December.

But then again I want to wait until Financial Aid information comes in early next year. Is that too late to make a decision? D definately needs housing, that's why we have a concern.

JSM, You might want to give ECU a call and ask if you will still get all the accepted student mailings (including housing info.) even if you have not sent in the $100.

I was told last year that the $100 "held your spot" in the class but it is not binding in any way. If your D decides to attend, the $100 is deducted from your housing bill that you pay along with tuition in July just before Fall semester starts.

S2 sent his housing form in Feb. and got a room in the area he requested. You do not have to send any money with the housing application.

housing information is supposed to come available online first week of nov so keep checking back.

Yes, I read that we should be receiving another package soon but online it says to submit $200 ... $100 to hold your spot in school and the other $100 to hold a bed.
