I'm just wondering if anyone is planning on attending, maybe some of us can meet up!

And another question, was anyone else accepted into both Mount Holyoke and Smith? And which campus overnight are you going to? Or are you going to both?

Theothermuse-- Are you attending both? Since you're in CA and they're providing airfare, are you going to take Mount Holyoke's ticket? and how would you get to Smith?

I'm so confused on what to do since both events are 19-22ish!

Flootloop: It's in your acceptance packet, not the actual ticket of course :P But in the "Discovery" brochure, there is a little part that says if you live more than 250 miles away, they'll cover airfare!

Also, you're def. only going to Mt Holyoke's? I'm torn between the two..

I'm not sure.. I haven't tried to reserve a spot yet. But for Smith, you have to call this travel agency and book it yourself, though I think they give you a time frame :/

In all seriousness, does one stick out more in your mind? My top two choices are Smith and Beloit but if money weren't an issue, I would choose Smith in a heartbeat because it feels right. Beloit is a great school and I could see myself there for four years but there are little things about it that I have to justify in my mind. Moho and Smith are really different IMO. Do you prefer the isolation of South Hadley or do you prefer to bohemian vibe of Smith? Do you want a school with some core or a school with an open curriculum? It doesn't even have to be a big thing like academics, it could be just some little thing. I also applied to Lawrence University and while it was one of the few schools that had what I was looking for, little things stood out that made my stop and think about why they bothered me, like the trimester system and the rift between conservatory students and everybody else.

What I also found helpful was making two lists, one with the pros of one school and one with the pros of another school. It doesn't matter what you put on there...if you care that there are more trees at one campus than another, then put that. It's your education and you'll be spending four years at a particular place so think about anything and everything that matters to you. If you end up with one list that's significantly longer than the other, then that choice is obvious. If your lists are relatively equal, then you should try weighing what is most important to you. For example, one of my considerations was dining; at Beloit, everyone ate at a common dining hall whereas Smith has dining in a lot of the houses.

I got my acceptance packet from Wellesley before I got mine from Smith (Smith seems to always be slow with things in the mail), even though I knew about I was accepted by Smith already (after checking online). Unbeknownst to me, however, was the fact that Smith even had a discovery weekend event and that they were, like Wellesley, also wanting to fly me out to MA (on the same weekend). So I accepted Wellesley's invite, booked my flight with their travel agent, etc., and THEN I got an invite from Smith. I thought I wouldn't be able to go, but my Dad called Smith and Wellesley and Smith arranged to provide the flight out to MA, Wellesley cancelled my flight in, and they both shared the cost of a van to drive me between the two.

Honestly, Mount Holyoke and Smith share a lot of applicants, and I'm sure they have run up against this problem before. Call them.

Also, visiting BOTH mount holyoke and smith, if you have been accepted to both and are considering both, is extremely, extremely important - as with any two women's colleges. I would be at Wellesley if I hadn't visited both S and W.

Theothermuse: Thanks for the advice! The questions helped as well.. I think it'll be tough to choose between the two. Everyone has been saying they are two very distinct campuses but I guess I'll see in April.

Bea: I'll definitely give them a call! Congrats for getting accepted to both W and Smith! I applied to both, but it's a no-go for W.

I'd love to meet up with any of you who are planning to attend :-)

I'm planning on going to the "Discovery Day" on April 19th and I'm hoping to do an overnight on that Thursday. Are any of you guys doing overnights/going to the "Discovery Day?" I'd also love to meet up.

Anyone live in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area?

Hey, I just called Smith and Mt Holyoke. Smith's rep for the Discovery Day wasn't there but when I called MHC, the woman said if they covered airfare, you are obligated to stay all three days!

So, essentially I'm already forced to choose between the two..

They won't be doing any bed checks. (This is not a new problem, and I'm sure they can work it out. ;))

It's really discreet but it's on that brochure about the Discovery Day. I don't have my stuff in front of me right now (I'm in yearbook :P) but it's in the middle page on the left hand side.
