Is it better to commit early, and then just w/d if you decide to go someplace else? Right now, NEU is one of my top 3 choices. Of the other 2 schools, I applied to one EA and the other RD. I think that I would like to live on campus in a single. My question is am I in a better position to procure a single if I pay the commitment fee early and get the ball rolling, or does the school not sort out the living arrangements until after the May 1 deadline?

Are you in Honors? If so, you will likely be able to get a single even if you wait. (I applied RD and was given a single even though I asked for a double.) If you’re not honors, chances are that you won’t be able to get a single no matter when you commit. There are very few singles, and your LLC may be in a dorm that has no singles.

What about getting into the LLC you want?

It’s dependent on the demand. I don’t know how they determine who gets in if there’s too much demand. It’s probably like housing in general, though - first come, first served based on housing deposit/housing survey.
