I got accepted as a transfer to UCSC majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology but I'm still missing 2 prerequisites (2nd semester Calculus & General Chemistry II). I wrote the counselor who recommended me to stay at community college but I don't see why I should spend a whole year taking 2 courses. I'm thinking about concurrent enrollment taking those classes at a local community college while still being enrolled at UCSC. Is that a good idea?

If yes, I have to contact the Dean and get it worked out. IS it likely that the dean will allow me to take the courses at a community college?

@lawlking. That’s what I was saying in my first post. I rather take them at the CC while I’m going to UCSC instead of turning down my admission.

But I read you can only take CC courses during the summer. Is that true?

No, it’s not true that you can only take CC courses during the summer. It’s just easier. You can take CC courses at the same time that you’re enrolled at UCSC, but I think you would have to petition to have UCSC allow you to take those two courses at your CC (I know that’s how it is at my school, but I’m not sure if it’s the same for the other UCs), and there’s no guarantee that UCSC would approve your petition to take those two courses at your CC. If your CC is close to UCSC, check to see if the two campuses have a cross enrollment agreement with each other.

Taking either one of those classes over summer is going to be really tough, to take both of them would be suicide. Take your classes in the fall…

your counselor must have down syndrome… congrats to your admission to ucsc, u should consider going instead of wasting another year at CC. Your dean should allow it, there should be a website link towards taking cross enrollment at community college and UC.

Thank you guys for the replies. Unfortunately I can’t take the course over the summer. Because of budget cuts every useful course got cut except for some lousy courses that won’t help me in any way.
I could take the course at UCSC, but that is “highly discouraged” and “not recommended.” I have seen many UC students taking GE classes at community college so I don’t see why it shouldn’t be possible to do concurrent enrollment. Especially because Ican finish those two in one quarter.

So I’ll contact the dean to allow me to do concurrent enrollment because the CCs start 1 month earlier than the UCs. Thanks again :)
