by the way--great link above! According to the stats for fresh admissions, i should be in the top%, but then again, that includes in/out state. Numbers are prob different. Question-if you don't get the 3 scholarships listed above (W/M Scholar,College Scholar, orMonroe) does that mean that it's full price unless financially needy? Can anyone post who did not get one of the 3 above scholarships, and still received some instituitonal aid? Thanks

The College Scholars and the Monroe Scholars are both merit-based. They have nothing to do with financial aid. It is my understanding that financial aid awards will be sent out with RD packages about April 1 or under separate cover for those who received Monroe Scholar letters in the past few days.

Sorry, this might be stupid but what link are you talking about yankeeboy? I've looked through the thread and don't see one...maybe I'm just blind...

i dont see it either

yankeeboy: I am guessing the kids who have already received acceptance letters with full scholarships (and didn't apply for the merit based ones) are the ones needing 100% aid. Again, only a guess and I am hoping this is true. I am scratching my head on this one, truly. Although I don't qualify for a full scholarship, I am VERY needy but the fact that those 3 kids (and I think they are great kids btw) got full rides and have lower STATS and less quality ECs -- is making me nervous. This might just validate the whole "admissions is a crapshoot theory".

Can someone confirm when rd without scholarships comes out?

no, because the official date is April 1.

however, the last few years, they have come around / during the 3rd week of March

Try this--interesting link. I def. fall in the top %, no letter for any merit, not looking good for me--hope I'm wrong.

yankeeboy: Are you a transfer?

Not a transfer. From New England but haven't heard anything from W&M. Thet never asked for financials, nothing. I did send in FAFSA, but not eligible for financial aid.

It sounds like people have super high stats. My d. has 2100 and a 3.72 (uw) adn 4.3 (w) from east coast out of state. She would not help with diversity. Any hunches on how competitive she might be for rd without money? Thanks.

Yankeeboy: If you don't qualify for f.a., they aren't going to call you to submit financial documents or anything.

didn't think of that..ok

yankeeboy: Where else did you apply? Your stats are excellent and although W & M is a great school, you certainly qualify for more selective schools.

In my case W & M is my only realistic choice, other than University of Richmond that costs $40K.

From New England--my daughter applied RD, but has heard nothing yet. Not expecting any financial aid, but was expecting to hear about a Monroe (merit). D's stats are very competitive for that award, so we're surprised not to have heard anything. We really like W&M and feel as though it would be a great fit for my daughter. She's a great kid, very involved in music, sports, etc. My daughter's GC told her that W&M is very difficult for out-of-staters, and slightly more difficult for females, but told her that she should absolutely get in?? With that said, not really sure at this point. We're hopeful, but not overly optimistic. We also really like Williams College. Good Luck to all!

Jwnn'a mom, were you responding to my email. What did you all--especially previous admits, current students, think about my daughter's stats. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO REPLY.

If you follow Yankeeboy's link (click to first year admissions). Seems like your D's stats are up there also. Super competitive for females out of state, however, that's what I keep hearing.

moms'...I am in same boat as your kids. 2240 SAT, 33 ACT 4.25 (w). Not sure if not getting Monroe Scholar is bad sign or not. We shall see...

W&M is extremely competitive in out of state admissions, and more females apply than males. I've said before and I'll say it again, because I firmly believe this: stats alone will not get you into W&M, and "low" stats (by CC standards) will not keep you out.

Not getting an offer for Monroe just means that you aren't at the very top, it in no way suggests that you will not get admitted to the school.

kinkosmom - I think your D will be competitive (if that GPA ranks her pretty high) in admissions, assuming she has solid ECs/Essays

I don't know how much time and effort W & M devotes to the issue of yield, but I wouldn't be surprised if some thought of it went into the Monroe Scholars designation. It's a nice recruiting tool, so admissions may name certain kids Monroes if they think it might tip their decision to attend. That could explain why it isn't a completely stats-driven program.
