Daughter was “waitlisted,” and wanted to attend MN. WI resident. She liked the MN campus and the cities, and especially the sciences program. Just a strange year at MN. This afternoon she sent an email to Admissions requesting that they remove her application. She was accepted into CALS at UW-Madison in December, and that is where she will be attending, following her sisters with some frustration. Good luck to all!
@UWDaughters I hope she comes to love it there! I too am from Wisconsin, and after several long months was waitlisted at UMN, my dream school. Something I was prepared for with my first choice (Carlson) but definitely not CLA, (second choice) with higher stats than the average admitted profile. It is a very difficult thing to accept, but we just have to keep moving forward. I too have to look toward other schools I was accepted at, and am thankful we all have options and backup plans! I have seen you on here a lot lately, and hope the very best for her future, and hope the frustration subsides for all of us out here receiving news we did not want to hear.
UMTC seems to have had major issues with their admissions this year. Go where you are valued and wanted and knock it out of the park!
"Strange"is an understatement. No words to describe some of these outcomes! It seems they have really changed the required stats for the non-residents; perhaps they are mimicking UW Madison (which has a notably higher admission standard for non-WI residents, even those under the MN compact). Many of you have other, excellent options but geez what a bummer for some who had a preference for UMN with no reason to believe they wouldn’t get in based on the stats.
Paid my son’s deposit today. He is in CSE and we are thrilled!
Good luck to all, whether you are attending UMTC or elsewhere.
@brooklynlydia Congrats! I did the same for my daughter a couple days ago. We are also thrilled she will be attending UMN-TC this fall.
Congrats to you, as well. So glad to be done with this ridiculously long process…
Well, my S chose ISU and notified UMN several weeks ago that he would not be attending. They are still ending him email and postcards about paying the housing deposit. He was in CFANS so probably won’t help any one out, but I am seeing why the waitlist is an issue if they can’t update their records to reflect kids who aren’t attending. My son also got a ton of emails and postcards reminding him to apply…months after he had applied and was accepted.
^^Not sure why this is a recurring problem (we noticed the same thing a few years ago). How hard is it to sync their databases? That AO is sorely lacking in proper communications systems.
I spoke to admissions regarding waitlist and they told me that you will hear something April 15th, but its not clear it will be a yes/no decision. Rather, I think they will query interest in staying on the waitlist through the early summer. I suspect my son would eventually get an offer from CLA, but who knows? In the mean time, he had a great visit to a different school with good OOS merit and I think he’s a goner regardless.
@rstdane1 - Always good to find a place your kid is happy. Good luck to your child and congrats on the aid.
@rstdane1 that is the most annoying news ever but makes some sense since the April 15th date seems early for admitting waitlisted students. I hope my d can move on if she doesn’t hear definitely by the 15th. We are visiting her second choice school this weekend. Crossing my fingers she falls in love with it…
I hate to say it but this aspect of the U has not changed much since I attended in the late 80s. Its big; its inefficient.
Hopefully your daughter really enjoys her visit. Good luck!
Just got an email asking me to consider to the Crookston campus- basically saying they’d admit me. Feeling sort of strung along since I had applied in early October was deferred and then waitlisted just a couple weeks ago. I’ve sent plenty of emails of interest and the admissions committee HAS to be aware that I was serious about wanting to attend. Not like they care and not like it’s shocking since UMN is a very big school, but the lack of communication and efficiency is just kinda sad. Feels like I’m holding out for nothing at this point and am visiting a school I got into last minute that I wasn’t expecting to get into- maybe even a better program than UMN for what I’m looking for, specifically. Oh well. Congrats to everyone who was admitted and good luck to everyone else on the waitlist. It’s not easy- but it’s almost over.
Tell them to take a hike. Crookston not where you want to be.
@jkirsy I got the same email after being deferred and then waitlisted, my state rep from UMN was great at communication until I got deferred and haven’t heard back from him since, I scoff at his “I pride myself in communicating with students” but I guess that only applies when he’s giving me false hope after deferral…
@kkarssenn I also got the crookston email after being deferred and then waitlisted. Crookston and UMN TC is apples and oranges lol
My application tracker changed from the wait list message to “All of your required application materials have been received and an admission decision will be posted to this site. Thank you!” Is that a good sign or bad sign? And how quick does a decision come?
My daughter got accepted in her second choice/alternate major and got waitlisted for Carlson back in January. We have been waiting since January and not a word. At this point we have decided to move on to where she can get into the major she wants. We are grateful that she has some other great opportunities. Good luck to all of you. You will shine wherever you go.
@elmi365 , I think you are getting good news. Check tracker tonight after midnight.
