Based on your experience from last year, I understand UCF had their first notification on September 14th. I have now called twice and the same lady indicates they will start accepting "later this year". When I tried to pinpoint a month, she said like November or December.

Has anyone else asked and gotten any different answer? Why are they doing it so much later?

Last year they told us October 1st would be when the first round of acceptances/rejections would go out. We were pleasantly surprised to learn of my daughter's acceptance on September 14th (the second Friday in September...this year may be the 12th)!

tzais01, First and foremost Congratulations to your daughter. I bet she is excited! Second, what semester did she apply for? I'm applying for the Spring of 2009 Semester and didn't find out yet on myUCF. Please PM or let me know either way. Thanks :)

Thanks everyone for the congrats. Now the long wait to hear from FSU and UF. UCF is choice #3 but it is great to have gotten in this early. We live in the Orlando area (Lake Mary) and DH and I are UCF alumni, so UCF is great for us!

Yes, and the fact that everyone who applies for summer is very happy they did so. They love getting acclimated and starting off before the masses descend onto campus for the fall.

JerseyShoreMom- Many kids in Florida, regardless of test scores apply for and attend the summer session before school starts. They do this for many reasons. 1. Florida mandates that you must complete 9 credits (three courses) during the summer. You can waive this if you come in with 9 AP credits or dual enrollment credits. 2. Florida public unversities are HUGE and UCF takes in about 6000 Freshman every school year. Approximately 2000 of these start in Summer B and 4000 in Fall. It is much easier to "get to know" the campus, the kids, college life and Orlando, during the summer when it is less crowded and the work is less intense. It helps the adjustment both academic and social tremendously. 3. If you take two classes in the summer, you can take one less class (4 classes per semester) during the school year and have less stress and more time for all the other things that college has to offer.

My elder daughter at UF started in Fall of 2006, not summer. She regretted it a lot later. She didn't realize all the perks (mentioned above) about summer and certainely didn't need to apply for summer for any kind of admission's boost (though the boost is now questionable). It took her a long time to adjust to college life and she felt that all the summer kids were already "plugged in". For this reason, my second daughter applied and was accepted for summer B of this year. She said to me, after we finished moving her into her Fall dorm, that she was so glad that she did summer. She already knew where everything was (publix, target, movie theaters, restaurants, classroom buildings, etc) AND knew that she wanted to join a sorority (which she had NEVER wanted prior to summer. She also said that moving in for Fall was like "coming back home". I highly recommend summer for all college freshman, whether you need the 9 credits or not.

I agree. My daughter just graduated from FSU in April 2008. When she applied, she never considered starting in the summer. It took her quite awhile to adjust and those that started in the summer had already met friends, were able to register earlier (because at this point they had more credits), and were familiar with the campus. My son just applied to UCF for summer 2009, not because of scores (1390/2120 on SAT's and 30 on ACT), rather for all of the advantages I just listed above. His first choice is UF but UCF is good for Aerospace Engineering (his intended major), as well.

For those people who applied for the summer, are their extra costs for going at that time? Also, are the summer students graduation high school in '09 or did you graduate in '08?

Jess0990, the only thing I can say for extra costs of summer, is that the Bright Futures money usually does not cover summer. I'll let others with experience answer this better for you.

My daughter will be graduating in June of 09 and then start the summer session on June 29th.

It's Official :D
D applied for Summer 2009 this morning. Just waiting for transcripts, recommendations and the September ACT to be sent, but the application is in and payment made.

UCF is her #1 choice, Hospitality - Event Management. She'd be willing to take a dorm at Rosen just to get her foot in the door at UCF. When we visited Rosen over the summer, the tour guide told us that most of the dorms are empty thoughout the year.
