For people who are going to Cal day, how are you planning your trip?

I live in SoCal. so I have to spend two nights (17th, 18th) there. Where would I stay? And consequently there's the OHP program, but is that only for regents scholars?

i need help for the 18th toooo!
apparently they offer no programs that night.

Have you checked the Cal Overnight Stay Program? It's different from OHP I believe. If you have friends here and are only spending two nights, you can totally crash at their place, no?

yea, I'm clueless about what to do. If anyone from SoCal (or stayed over) last year could provide some insight that would be appreciated.

I know there's a OHP program that offers nights on the 17th and 18th, but i think it's only for regents scholars (?)

There's a SOP program, but it's on the 19th, the night after Cal day, which is not helpful if you're only looking for a place to stay.

Are there any hotels near? A viable option is to get a hotel, stay there the 17th, drive to Cal on the 18th, and return to hotel and stay the night, and leave on the 19th.

I was planning on doing the OHP from the 17th to the 18, and the OSP from the 19th to 20th...

but i have nothing from the 18th to the 19th =[

EDIT: haha, the above poster and i are stuck in the same situation.
since i'm OOS and don't really know anyone there personally, looks like i might be stuck getting a hotel :/

Yeah, there is a hote two blocks away from campus - Hotel Durant. It is a pretty posh hotel i might add, but if it is only for two days you will have a blast there.

Is cal day just for students or for their parents as well? My dad was reading about cal day and now he really wants to go to visit the campus... It would be kind of weird if I were the only person coming along with my parents. Is it a family orientated event??

Rockysluv, I don't think it would be weird at all. My parents aren't coming, but people wander onto campus all the time, from young to old, so it's not like he'd be the only adult there. Plus, out of the thousands (?) of admits going, I'm sure your dad won't be the only parent on there.

100 round trip plus fees/taxes comes out to be like 120

Yeah, for 3 people it's going to cost about $350 plus about $15 for BART. And then you have to factor in food and souvenirs... so it'll be an expensive day.

It says "You and your family" a lot on the cal day website

for admitted students do you think we need to show proof or an ID? from what i see on the cal day website, it's pretty much an open house for anyone to come in and explore the campus. there are presentations for the admitted students but i don't know they would know i got accepted or not.

it's not like the other schools where you have to RSVP for their campus admit days so i'm a little lost as to how the whole thing works.

plus, can anyone tell me what this "bear hug" gift is for accepted students who come early? haha i'm so curious to what it is :)

I want a "bear hug" but my flight doesn't come in until 8:35. =(
Can I still get one if I ask for it later? haha
