When did you start to get Acne?

I just broke out....again! I woke up this morning and I was like ***.
I started getting acne when I was about ummm, 11.
I am on 1 product from my dermatologist, it drys our my face but it works, though it's a rollercoaster with it.
I have treid everything, my dermatologist is also WTH?!
I am now immune to facials...this sucks.
I do not want to be in BS looking like a pizza. Everyone seems so damn hot and flawless. XD
When did your acne stop? Do a lot of people in highschool have acne?
What's your experiance with Accutane. Im desperate. My acne is not bad though, I just get serious breakouts followed by blemishes, followed by a clear period, then I break out again...ect....it's like being sent to hell..over and over again.
Any reccomendations/tips?

@artofmind_21,
high school = acne

@op, are u super stressed out (cuz stress can fuel acne)? also, do u rinse ur face with cold water? are you drinking enough water? is ur acne really that bad? approximately how many zits do u have?

Gentics... you can't do anything to change ur personality if you were born an
A S S H O L E...sorry man.

I break out along my chin usually. Then my face clears and in 2 weeks I break out again.

Ask to be prescribed penicillin for your acne. I've never used it, but a former girlfriend did, and the results were unbeatable. Completely clear on it, and noticeably broken out without it.

Who peed in your coffee?
You really are in a foul mood today.

Your parent's insurance policy might cover trips to the dermatologist; find out and, if they do, go. There they might prescribe prescription meds, which'll rid you of any facial blemishes pronto.

Accutane isn't horrible, but it really dries your skin out. It makes your acne worse for a while, then progressively better. My case wasn't very severe but impossible to treat (sounds like yours) so I went on it.

If you do resort to it, seriously get some good moisturizer. Also be warned if you wear contacts, because I had some weird problems with my contacts' fit and my vision while I was on it. My derm said that it does things to your eyes.

My parents are paying for appointments with the dermatologist. What I am on is prescription.
Yeah, thats what my demratologist told me too. I used to wear contacts, until one of them nearly killed me. lol
She said Accutane is last resort and she shall see in a couple of months how my skin is (to see the results of the gel im using).
Im scared of using it as well because it can make men sterile, cause depression and other nasty things. But oh well, haha.

ROFL QFT

i had acne from when i was 13-early 17. id probably still have it if i didn't use accutane. my first prescription was differin, which did NOTHING. then for a year i used retin A which was decent but didnt cure me. then i switched dermatologists and used some pill called doryx which worked a little but eventually failed. Then i tried tazorac which was by far the best cream/gel. eventually i just used accutane and it worked beautifully with absolutely NO side effects. If anything i was happier because my face was better...

I'm acne clear, baby. I run every day and drink at least 2 liters of water.

Accutane is pretty strong stuff. I would be very wary about having to use it. The problem with most acne treatments is that they create a dependence upon them to work. Antibiotic pills/creams are usually suppression treatment, designed to keep bacterial populations down, but not out. So the moment you stop, acne starts up again.

I too tried differin, and it didn't help. Then I got a tretinoin/antibiotic gel. That gel has been amazing. Retin A I think is like differin, in that they both are anti-inflammatory. I've been using the gel less and less, and still acne free. Its my understanding that isotretinoin/Accutane is the strongest out there, so at least try the weaker ones like tretinoin first.

And AOM...calm down. Contrary to popular belief, this forum is actually reserved for threads like this one, and not daily updates on one user's life.

My two cents...Get on Accutane ASAP! Blah, blah "strong stuff". Blah, blah "side effects" Bull. Do not waste your time and money on treatments that never will work. Demand that your DR./Insurer start the process now. Do this while you are under your parents supervision and health care plan. It's summer don't waste another minute putting this off. It takes about four months to go through the treatment. Accutane works better on acne than anything out there. It is a miracle f*****g drug. Now get off this board and start taking care of this situation. You can thank me later.

did AOM's post get deleted?

I got acne when I was maybe 10, and I stopped getting blemishes about a month ago (currently 15).

I use tretinoin cream + Dial antibacterial soap. Accutane is supposed to be a last resort, so I don't know if you should use it if you describe your acne as "not bad." At least try the tretinoin first, like Echelon suggested.

I'm pretty much clean as a whistle. When I do get acne, it doesn't last for more than 2 days, and even then it's real minor. I credit it to lots of basketball/baseball and keeping myself hydrated.

NEVER!!!

I never got Acne and probably never will. =) (it's just the way my skin works...)

About 12, I think. It's never been too serious, so I haven't really cared much.

Never...

I once gone a week or so without showering (don't ask, it was summer), and had a few here and there, but it disappeared as soon as I started cleaning up myself.

Aussie13 -- I totally know the boat you're in! I've battled with acne pretty much since the start of puberty (which started around age 11). Sometimes my acne stays in check, and other times it flares up horribly! I've been seeing a dermatologist (for acne) and a pediatric endocrinologist (for the hormones that cause my acne) for two years. Finally, after my doctors had exhausted all resources, I was prescribed Accutane. I've been on it for two weeks, and have had few adverse side effects this far. My skin has been more dry than usual, and my lips are really chapped. But besides that, I'm doing well. I had an initial breakout of acne, but that is an expected side effect. Now, my skin has started to clear. I would suggest it for you. Since you're a guy, you won't have to deal with the stupid ipledge system, so that should make prescribing much easier. Good luck, and PM me if you need support or have any other questions about acne or Accutane!
