ACT Writing scores

So I took the ACT for the last time this past weekend, and expect pretty similar things to what I've had so far on my writing. I went from 8-10-10-10 these past times I've taken it. So I ask the community, have any of you gotten higher than a ten on the ACT Writing, maybe even a perfect twelve? What do you feel is necessary to get that perfect twelve? I think it's kinda irrelevant as far as college apps go (seeing as a 10 is the 99th percentile and you'd need to find a really uptight college to turn you down on account of not scoring as well as you could on a thirty minute essay), but as far as bragging rights and the actual process of grading the essays goes, how difficult is it to get that twelve?

Took the test first time as a junior this October and got a 12. Really cruddy topic, but what you have to do is write your butt off from the start. Know some hooks you can use regardless of topic and get writing! I am very fortunate because I can write coherent essays without structuring them before I start writing, so I just improv ideas as I go along…I think that is the trick. Using big words and varied sentences is also A MUST that people always overlook!

Well, I got my writing score back from this last time, while I kinda failed at the rest of the test I got an eleven on the writing. I do feel like big words are important, though a strategy that seems to help me is long (but not run on!) sentences. Big words and big sentences look impressive.

this thread will help you, @AlexQY

@aao1997‌ I have not found a topic for the act writing that I’ve liked yet, and it makes it that much harder to write because I just didn’t care ya know?

Anyway @AlexQY if you got the ACT prep book or the online thing they actually have examples of each kind of essay (like this is a 5, this would be an 8, this is a 12) and I found that really helpful.

@Shortstack17‌ I agree. They should prompt students on topics they COULD be passionate about…that could cause higher scores!

D got an 11. Ironically her essay was about how irrelevant the ACT test is
