I noticed that there are some programs not on the dropdown list which I think should have their own folder and a place where people can check up on related posts without doing blind forum searches...how does one go about requesting that? Or is that allowed?

For example: I know Marymount only had like 5 or 6 posts in its folder and yet it still has a sub folder.
It would just make everything a lot easier - especially for programs that are really heating up like University of Northern Colorado and Texas State.

Searching through the “Big MT College list” is very daunting and I know when I was looking for candid info on schools, I just skipped it because it was so incredibly long.

Is there any way to request a sub-folder? Or do we just have to accept everything like it is?

As austinmtmom copied from a prior post of mine, and I have posted it many times on the MT Forum in the past, the list of sub forums at the top of the MT Forum does NOT represent a comprehensive list of MT college programs. It is not meant to be “the” list. It is simply a way that CC has organized a quantity of existing threads into sub forums for schools. If a school has enough discussion threads, often a sub forum is created to group these together. I know CC is not willing to use up space for a forum for every school in the country. The so called "Big List’ which is pinned as a thread to the top of the MT Forum threads DOES represent a comprehensive list of MT colleges and is updated periodically. That thread doesn’t provide information about the program or discussions. It serves another purpose of simply listing schools that offer a MT program. Post #2 on that thread is the most up to date list and there is no need to read the entire thread. That is the list one should consult FIRST to find which schools offer MT, but not to obtain information.

The way to find discussions about MT programs that don’t have an existing sub forum is to use the SEARCH FUNCTION and search for threads about a specific school in the thread titles on the MT Forum…that will turn up discussions about schools that don’t have enough “traffic” to warrant their own sub forum.

As a moderator, I cannot set up sub forums. The criteria to set one up is that there are enough existing discussions to warrant CC setting up a forum to group those discussions together. Interest in a school or a request is not enough. I will put in a request to the CC Administrator to consider adding six schools that have some existing discussions already. I will have to prioritize the list in case he doesn’t want to allocate space for six new sub forums. Based on the number of existing threads, the following schools will be requested, but I cannot guarantee if subforums will be set up for any or all of them. If they are set up, as always, I will move existing threads on those schools to their new sub forums.

First priority (9 threads): Temple and Catholic
Second priority (5 threads): Texas State - San Marcos and Texas Christian
Third priority (3 threads): Western Michigan and Northern Colorado

Actually, Marymount Manhattan has 34 threads and 411 posts.

Thanks for clearing all of that up CollegeMom :).

-And about the MM comment – I mistakenly wrote “post” instead of “thread”. I only see 6 threads when I click on the folder but I assume there must be more floating around on the forum.

But anyway – I really appreciate you taking the time to repost that info - I understand how it all works now :).

Since this question was raised, I wonder if there are any parameters about removing a school from the list. Something like there has been no activity on the sub forum for over a year or some number of minimum threads per year. Just an idea.

Just FYI - The posts you see reflect the setting you have as to how many posts you view. Under Display Options, if you select view posts from “Beginning” you will see all the posts back to when the thread started.

^^^^^ Aha! Thanks, austinmtmom! That did the trick.

Funny, though, that for every other school’s MT sub forum link, that drop down button was set to “Beginning”, but not for Marymount Manhattan. Ghost in the Machine, I guess.

Jbehland, austinmtmom solved that question. Not sure I could have! I only knew how it appeared when I look at all the MT school sub forums. Thank you, austinmtmom!

mtdog, I have suggested to the Forum Administrator that if he needs to make more “room,” that there is one particular MT school sub forum that I feel could be removed.

Setting up forums on this board is not something a moderator has the tools to do. So, I can make recommendations and hopefully this will be implemented. I have not gotten a response yet but am doing what I can. :)

I’ve checked the alphabetical list of colleges in the main Colleges and Universities forum, and I can’t find a folder for Texas State. Is there a folder for it anywhere else?

Francesca,
Likewise, CC’s sub forums in the Alphabetical List of Colleges Forum does not include EVERY college in the country. There are thousands of colleges in the US. I’m sure when CC came up with a list of sub forums, they chose schools with the widest appeal. For example, there are numerous state schools in every state and these are not all included. Most of the state schools listed are flagships and such. Even if you consult a college directory such as the Fiske Guide to Colleges or the Princeton Review of Best Colleges, you will only find several hundred colleges and not thousands, and Texas State is not in either of those college directories. Texas State is a school, generally speaking, that attracts in-state students. It is what is called a Regional University. Only 1% of the student body at Texas State comes from out of state. There are very few threads on all of CC regarding this school. I realize that their new BFA in MT program draws from out of state and there are now five threads on the MT forum about this program and so perhaps CC will add a sub forum for it on the MT Forum itself. I have not heard back yet from the Forum Administrator.

Again, the sub forums are NOT meant to be an exhaustive list of colleges, but rather an organizational tool to group existing thread discussions in folders or sub forums. If there were numerous Texas State discussion threads on CC, it might warrant its own folder in the Alphabetical List of College forums. The SEARCH function can be used otherwise to search for any college or any topic and that is how to find discussions on a topic of interest, not simply looking for a folder.

I know it has been a long wait but I have finally been able to get the Forum Administrator to add SIX new college specific MT forums due to the existence of several threads on these schools on the MT Forum. Now, that he has set these up, I have done a search and attempted to move all relevant existing threads on these six schools to their new school specific sub forums.

The new MT school forums are:
Catholic University
Temple University
Texas Christian University
Texas State University - San Marcos
University of Northern Colorado
Western Michigan University
