After reading around it seems that you do not need to send in transcripts or act/sat scores. I'm thinking its all self reporting. Am I correct in saying this or do I have to send in ACT/SAT scores and transcripts? How do we send in recommendations? What about a counselor form or something? Are there any additional documents to send in other than the application?

You have to request your SAT and ACT scores be sent, but not transcripts.

Transcripts are only sent if you are offered a spot, accept and are going to attend Cal - for the purposes of admission it is self reporting.

Except for a small percentage of applications which are selected by Cal or UCLA for supplemental information, recommendations or counselor forms are not sent. The UC admissions system is set up to avoid processing and storing paper - thus no recommendations, no transcripts, no other mailings - they only accept the electronically submitted application and the electronically transmitted standardized test scores.

For the very few who will get a request in a few months for supplemental information, it will consist of a form to fill out online and a customized web link you will forward to one person who will submit an online reference. Even with the supplemental request, no physical documents get sent.

and the transcript? is that to be sent as a physical document or is it to be scanned? and who is to send it? the school?

assuming someone gets accepted

After Cal releases decisions in late March, most likely on March 29th, here is the process assuming an offer of admission is tendered:

1 - you have just over a month to make a decision among the various acceptances you (hopefully) will have received from your various applications

2- You will have discovered your status by logging into the MyBerkeleyApp site that you will be registering for in early January. This will be the site which you will use if you attend Cal, to complete all the paperwork and other requirements in the time until you check into your dorm room for the coming academic year.

3 - If you choose Cal, by May 1 you will have to electronically submit your SIR (Statement of Intent to Register) along with a $100 deposit towards eventual tuition charges

4 - The admissions offer will include conditions - essentially it is a requirement that your senior year HS grades are at least 3.0 unweighted GPA for each semester individually and that no grade is a D or F. Further, you are expected to have taken the classes that you listed in your application as your intended senior year schedule.

5 - One of the required tasks is to request that your high school mail an official transcript to Cal, once the year is over and they are ready to send them out. Your MyBerkeleyApp will show you the status of all the outstanding tasks and when they have received and entered your transcript it will be indicated on the site. The purpose is simply to ensure that your self-reported grades match and that you meet the conditions of admission above that were part of your acceptance offer.

6 - There are other actions you will take, such as filing for housing and other tasks that are listed in a checklist, each with their due dates, and tracked on the site.

7 - There is a date when housing offers will be returned to all housing applicants - you see what dorm and what kind of room you were offered - after which you can accept with a small deposit or reject the offer and look for independent housing. Most freshmen stay in the dorms for one or two semesters, as a way of meeting others and to adjust to life away at college.

8 - You will register for an orientation session to take place over the summer - called CalSO for Cal Student Orientation - and during that orientation you get some advising and sign up for the most important of your first semester classes.

9 - You will receive information about move-in day for your dorm as well as lots of information about what to bring, and answers to many questions about your upcoming experience. Which cable tv channels are included free, how free internet access works, your mailing address, how to set up access for your PC/Mac/tablet/smartphone, laundry, recreation and sports, and many more items are covered.

10 - You move in, spend a few days before class starts looking into 398 clubs and other organizations, taking in activities, attending free concerts, attending Calapalooza, wandering the campus and meeting people.
