Son received request for additional financial aid info. The email specifically states that these requests are being sent out prior to admission decisions, but I'm curious if everyone who has missing info gets this email or it at least indicates some level of interest by W&M? Did anyone else out there receive this email?

We did, but DD was admitted ED. When we did the FAFSA, it wouldn’t let DH sign for some reason since DD picked her own pin, so we submitted it without. We signed and all is good.

I didn’t get it. I was accepted ED though and completed my FAFSA without any problems.

I’m assuming it was sent to W&M just fine, though I would like some confirmation they received it…

At least in the email my daughter got, the information being requested is in addition to the FAFSA. Last year W&M had a supplement financial aid form on its website which I was all set to fill out this year – but it disappeared for this year’s applicants and only the FAFSA was required, with a notice that additional information would be requested if needed. I’m glad to have gotten the request for more information, since that suggests that there may be some money (apart from Pell grants rewarded on the basis of the FAFSA) available for W&M students who need it.

My D got an email today asking for more info. It is not clear at all what they are asking for. I’ll wait a couple days to see if they send something in the mail.

IMO, nothing can be inferred from these letters regarding admission. S got a request for more FA info a couple years ago when he applied. He was waitlisted and went elsewhere.

I received an email requesting more information as well. It was very confusing and I had to read it about four times and navigate around the links they provided until I found what they were asking for.

Okay, finally got that email.

Problem was, for whatever reason, I didn’t get it, but my mom got the one they sent her.

We just filled out the papers and will fax them back, plus the required forms, tomorrow.

^Yes, it was very confusing.

No offense, but whoever wrote that email needs to learn to use punctuation.

The list of of required forms had no commas and it took us the longest time to figure out what needed to be SIGNED and what didn’t. ><

D2 recieved the email last year. Took it as a good sign she would be accepted. She was waitlisted. It appears, however, those waiting on admission were accepted or at least waitlisted. I don’t recall anyone receiveing a request for more financial data and was ultimately rejected.

Received the same email this weekend. The forms required are very similar to ones that I have filled out for my other children who attend other colleges, so it’s not an unusual request. My D hasn’t been accepted yet either. I really wish W & M would let the kids know sooner. She’s being heavily recruited by other colleges but really liked W & M.

My D and I also received the email requesting: Dependent Quality Assurance Worksheet, 2009 1040, plus accompanying schedules, W-2’s, etc. We faxed that back to them right away. Although my daughter was admitted ED, I can’t imagine that they would take the time to work out financial packages for every student who applies. My thought would be along the lines of what momray said, OP son is at least waitlisted.

I was asked to send the displaced worker form and special circumstances form, and quite frankly financial aid requests have nothing to do with admissions. At most schools the two offices have little to NO contact with each other. Although it’s wicked temmpting to say “Hey they want more info, so I’m in right?” it’s pretty flawed in my opinion.

But hey I’m an applicant and have no idea, just my two cents.

Financial aid works without knowing any admission decisions so they send out requests for additional information based on specified federal government standards. Those requests can go out to students who are eventually admitted, denied, or waitlisted. Admission does not consider financial info in making decisions and Financial Aid does not receive advance notice of admission decisions.
