HINT from financial aid letter?

ok, so i got this letter from W&M asking for more financial aid information, such as W2's, and 1040s and all the federal tax goodness. so my question is..does this mean anything? i know a person who KNOWS they got into w&m (through sports) and they are transfering and they got the same information request. so, does this mean that we can take it as a hint that this maybe them [as in w&m] taking the tourble to get more finacial info bc they are most likely going to accept you? i hopee soo, bc i doubt they will ask this from the 10,000+ applicants they recieved. plus im out of state. responses are sooo great! thanks for reading this, i appreciate it!

I remember the same request from last year and thinking the same thing...they can't request this from every applicant? Unfortunately, our student was waitlisted. We are OOS and did qualify for financial aid. In May an offer of admission did come. Not sure how all those pieces might have come together.

ohh :(. well at least he/she was waitlisted. which is def better then getting rejected. but i guess i can take it as somewhat of a sign, but i guess im always positive and its just me.

so anyone else have suggestions or clues as to the answer to this mystery.

How long ago did you get the request...and did they give you a time/date to respond by?

yea, they said to send it asap.

This was discussed on a thread last year. So here goes........I DID receive a letter asking for additional financial aid stuff and I was accepted. I took it as a "sign", but may have been grasping at straws because the suspense was killing me. William and Mary was my first choice for college. UVA also asked me for additonal info and I was accepted there as well. But.......................one of my best friends was also asked by UVA for additonal info from financial aid and he was waitlisted. I stand by the fact that it's a good sign and I wish you the best of luck. William and Mary is just an awesome place to be. I am having a great time as a freshman (We are on Spring break now) and this school is a great fit for me. Again, good luck. By the way, my letter arrived last year dated March 18th. I applied regular decision and I am not a Monroe Scholar although I live in Monroe.

I received a letter as well, asking for more information. In the letter, it says that although they are preparing a financial aid package, no decision has been made regarding acceptance.

Like you, I have a hard time believing that schools would prepare financial aid packages for EVERY applicant -- gosh, that's a lot of work!

But I will also point out that I applied to 5 colleges. The 3 that I am mostly likely to get accepted have ALL written or called making sure I have submitted all of my f.a. paperwork and/or asking for more information. The two schools were I am likely to be rejected haven't asked for additional paperwork (probably because they don't need to, because I ain't getting in!).

but doesnt uva have an application [within the application booklet] that requests financial information due the beginning of march? i sent that in, with all my W2s and 1040s. what kind of extra information did they ask for?

Their f.a. office called me AND emailed me reminding me to send the info. about 1 month after I applied, which was way before the f.a. deadline.

P.S. -- I was referring to UVA calling me. I can't imagine they call every applicant after they've applied 'reminding' them to send in their f.a. info. I took it as a very good sign.

I hate to be the bearer of bubble bursting news, but just to add to the discussion, you should know that last year my D received same letter asking for W-2s, etc, and was then not offered admission (sounds much nicer than rejected).
Like you, she got her hopes up thinking why would they bother scrutinizing her FA if they weren't considering her - maybe she was on the bubble and didn't make the cut.
It was a hard blow for her (and me) as we love WM...S is a junior there.

But it totally worked out for the best, as she now couldn't see herself anywhere other than where she ended up!
Funny how that works out...good luck to you all! The wait will be over soon!

I applied RD, but I've never been contacted for anything. It must be a good sign for you. Apparently they have not asked all applicants because I was not sent anything. Good Luck--I would take the request as a positive.

ok that's what im thinking. but i guess ill try not to get my hopes up TOO high. haha but now im worried about UVA not calling me and requesting info as they did to worldshopper. uh oh?

i told my counselor that they sent me a verification sheet of all my F.a documents (w2s etc) and she replied that 'i shouldnt be worried' and that they send it out only to a select few because of verification purposes, but she did not say anything about hopeful signs of acceptance, so i dunno what to think of it anymore. we'll see come april, me and my friend both got it, good luck to you all. plus me and my friend are both permanent residents and not citizens so personally i thought this might be why. hah peace

Sign or no sign -- I'll just say the 3 schools who have notified me are on TOP of it: W &M, UVA and University of Richmond.

No word from Princeton or Cornell. Heck, Cornell has even lost one of my teacher rec's -- 2 times.

Okay, now I am leaning towards the school who actually have it together. Keeping in contact with me, making sure I have everything sent in, etc.

i got one of those letters--it actually says not to read anything into it, that it's completely independent of whatever decision they may make. that makes me inclined to say that it's not a hint.

of course, they could just be saying that. who knows?

but i'm not getting my hopes up on account of that letter. :)

also, i agree with you, worldshopper: i am not inclined to think well of colleges that don't keep up with you. i got into my safety, marymount university, but all the times i've called i've been forwarded to an answering machine. then i leave a message and they never call back--the one time they did, it was at about noon and i was at school. duh! of course i'm not going to be home....

they also sent me two birthday cards. so yeah, experience is definitely making me lean toward places like w&m and notre dame (if i get in.) if you're getting crappy service before you pay your money, what will you get afterwards? that's why i like w&m.

yea, i guess we'll find out april!
