ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

Same question as sleepyparent - my daughter went from composite 30 to 29 - math went up from 29 to 33 put English and reading down one point to 28 and science went from 27 to 25. I’m afraid that the science grade looks bad for someone who wants to be premed so thinking the better math isn’t worth reporting the new scores. However, she did note that she was taking the test again in October so will it look worse if she doesn’t report anything for October?

@fallenchemist I’m starting to get anxious about my decision as I applied over a month and a half ago and have not heard back yet while many other kids in my area have who applied way after me. Is there anything I can do?

@ljinator7 my daughter applied 3 months ago and we haven’t heard yet. You just have to be patient.

@ljinator7

There was an online chat last night with 4 of the admissions officers. They made it very clear that there is no significance to not having heard yet, even when classmates that applied at the same time have. As they said, Tulane is not rolling admissions, it is just by when they happen to pick up your folder. So that can be 3 days or 3 months after submission. I know that may not seem fair to you, but Tulane clearly never said anything except that if you apply by Nov. 15 you will hear by Dec. 15.

I think there are a lot of reasons besides chance that some hear back very fast and others are put to the side for further review. There is little doubt about that. But the important thing is that it could be nothing but chance, so the best thing to do, assuming that Gibson says your file is complete, is to be patient. It really is out of your hands now, since everything has been submitted. So while of course it is normal to be anxious, even unavoidable, just try to stay busy with other things and keep your mind off of it as much as possible. Maybe it is a good time to learn yoga or other meditation techniques.

@fallenchemist any words of wisdom? So D applied early last week and hasn’t heard anything yet. Struggled on which test score to send as they are a little all over the place. Sent last round of ACT - E34, M25, R33, S25. Sent SATs which are 1950 and 720 Lit II. She has a S31 on another test but the other scores for that date are a little out of sync. Should she send the ACT that has a 31S even if composite is a point lower? If they superscored she’d have a 31 with all 3 dates.

@sleepyparent

Honestly I think it will have no impact. They may kinda-sorta look at the subscores when there are two sets, but they really focus on the composite score and once there are a bunch of numbers I suspect they are not looking at the subs any longer. I would just hold tight.

Big envelope sitting here, waiting for kid to get home. Torturing me.

has anyone heard SCEA yet? that’s what I applied and I’m wondering if they haven’t released those yet.

i was thinking the same thing. The only acceptances I have seen are EA. I also applied SCEA and haven’t heard. I have been complete for about a month.

@lilbno @jkenny50 I applied SCEA and was accepted today. Application was complete on Novemeber 4th.

did you find out through the Gibson portal about scholarship or was it in the letter they sent?

@akpDC98 the scholarships come via snail mail with the official acceptance.

Did you guys also do the other optional essay? I think there was one about extracurriculars.

The optional essay is “Why Tulane?” . It’s always better to complete it-- it is an additional way to show interest.

@DebmomNY I’m saying besides that… Was there an essay on the common app about extracurriculars that was optional? I can’t remember if it was Tulane or not.
