Admission to A&M

Hey I'm an international student. Just got accepted into Texas A&M. I really need help. Can someone please tell what's up with the major choice. When I applied I chose petroleum engineering as my first choice major. But when I log in, my college of choice says "General Studies" and it says "Bachelors Degree - Unspecified". Did I not get accepted into the College of Engineering or is this just some computer spit-out? Perhaps someone has had a similar experience. Would really really appreciate it if someone could give some advice.

It would seem that you’ve been accepted to the school, but not to the specific program.

You should call the admissions office and check with them.

Thanks for quick reply. So in most cases if you’re not accepted to your desired program what happens then?

Ask lots of questions. Each college is different. Some schools it is no big deal. Others may want you to take a semester to show you can do the work (for engineering, the math classes may be important. If you haven’t had the right prep courses, they may want you to do them first semester).

So ask. If it is not quickly clear, ask again and also ask a different person (for instance, start by asking admissions, but if that doesn’t clear things up, then email the engineering department).

Texas A&M is a great school. It is also huge. You have to be assertive and not wait for anything to come find you. You have to go find out. It is no place to be shy!

Thanks a lot for the advice. I really appreciate.
