Hello!
I am a current high school senior and I applied to Clemson the day applications opened (8/1) and I am anxiously awaiting for mid February. I have been checking my mailbox everyday. I am wondering what my odds of getting accepted are. I am an in-state student and female engineering applicant. I have also been accepted into U of SC’s civil engineering program.
Here are my stats:
24 ACT and 1180 SAT; 10 on ACT writing
3 years of cross country, JV 10th grade and Varsity 11th and 12th grades
3.9 UW GPA and 4.76 W GPA
Top 7% of class
2 AP classes (human geo 9th grade and euro 10th grade)
5 IB classes
excelled in honors chem, honors bio, and earth-space science; about to take honors physics
on the Clemson application for potential engineering majors, they have an option for intended major and I selected ‘civil engineering’.
I visited CU’s engineering school last month and they assured me not to worry if some of my classmates have been accepted already, but I can’t help but be wrought with anxiety. Clemson is such an amazing school and my family would be utterly disappointed in me if I do not get in.
You are solid on everything but your ACT and SAT scores. Both are below the 25th percentile. If you don’t get in, I would expect that to be the reason. A lot of applicants that are only weak on the standardized tests get offered the Bridge program. But everyone is different so good luck on a straight acceptance in February.
@Minik02 As stated by @86grad you should try to take one of the standardized test again to try to get those scores up.
However I would say to you that you sound like an incredible young lady with all your outstanding academic achievements and great EC activities. The fact that you got into USC is a great accomplishment. Do not give a second of thought about your family being disappointed in you if you do not get into Clemson. You seem like an amazing young lady who will do great things in life. Getting in Clemson or not getting into Clemson is not going to change that.
Be proud…Be strong … and I am sure you will succeed in life where ever you go to college. Although because of your passion (not your families which doesn’t matter) I hope it is at Clemson.
@Minik02 If you know Clemson is your place, then I would highly recommend that you go into the admissions office and talk with someone in person and let them get to meet you. I would do it soon–don’t wait until January. I am sure they understand that some people are excellent students but not as strong with standardized tests.
Are you flexible with your major? You might consider asking them if it would help if you went in as undecided. You can do that and do a really good job in your classes and switch majors.
Have you heard of Parchment? My school uses this website to send transcripts and there is a prediction tool on there. If so, do you know how accurate this program is in predicting the odds of college acceptance?
Good luck to you. I believe there isn’t always a simple formula colleges have when they offer acceptances to applicants. Like most students and parents on this site, I have examined the acceptance history for the majors and schools my daughters were interested in. I feel in many cases there hasn’t been a clear pattern.
I have tried to explain to my daughters that all of the schools they applied to were overall very similar. I firmly believe that it is what you make of it. Whether you attend Clemson or any other college, you will get back what you put into it. I was not accepted to my first choice college. I attended a school that I didn’t really know much about at the time and it was truly the most amazing college experience I could have asked for. I couldn’t have imagined attending any other college. As a result of my experience, my youngest daughter considers it her top choice as well.
I have also reminded my daughters that if they really aren’t happy where they end up or with their major, they can always change it or transfer.
You should be proud of all your hard work. Good luck.
I am Tigertown bound! I just got my admissions packet today and have been accepted into the General Engineering program. Thanks for all of your help guys!
