It’s possible this is widely known, but I’m new to UCSD so sorry in advance! On my call they didn’t say anything about scholarships. Back in the thread people have mentioned that only urms, engineering students, and regents winners get calls. Is that true?

I don’t think that’s true mantaray. I’m fairly certain I’m not a regents winner, I’m white (middle eastern), and am studying biology. But staying optimistic is good!

Has anybody been called who lives in San Diego? Also - majoring in a non-science / math / engineering field - like theater, arts, humanities, etc.

@CrsPrnt, I live in San Diego and am going into a humanities major as well…no call either. I do however know of two people from SD who got a call, not sure on the majors though.

Someone said calls were only made to admitted students with URM status.

^They make calls to a lot of different people.

I got the call a few days ago, and i was admitted. But I’m a URM. (Black/hispanic)

^non-urms and oos are getting calls left and right.

I got a call today; I’m in-state and a Regents scholar. I applied as an English major.

To be honest, I’m surprised that I qualify for Regents at UCSD. So your guess is as good as mine. Traditionally they consider the academic record, right? I don’t know all the details of UCSD’s Regents process, sorry.

Got a phone call saying that I was admitted and a regent scholar!

Got the phone call last Sunday! I’m pretty sure it’s because I’m a URM (Mexican). From San Diego, planning to major in Humanities.

@Seemas, thanks for that! I’m glad to hear people are still getting calls. There is still hope!
Every time the phone rings, I feel really nervous until I hear the area code and it isn’t 858 :P

@alwaysawriter, your stats clearly show your passion for English/humanities, so that probably helped a lot! Very cool that you’re working on a novel (:

just got the call today, i’m in-state, Asian. didnt mention anything about Regent scholarship tho @.@

DS just got the call and was told about Regents and that he got his first choice college. He is not an urm and is in state.

@fidoprincess - Congratulations! Would you mind posting his stats and major? Thank you

Thanks collegeboundkid2. I’m not sure what his uc gpa is but his unweighted gpa is 4.0 and with a lot of APs, I guess his uc gpa was the max counting only a portion of ap and honors classes, a cap of some sort? His non capped GPA is something like 4.6 but I’m not sure. His ACT is 35 and I think his major is mechanical/aerospace engineering.

We are happy because we really need the money for him to go. It’s the first regents for a UC that meets full need after our EFC. He interviewed for Berkeley Regents and was invited to apply for UCLA Regents but hasn’t found out if he got those yet. He also got Regents for UCSB but it’s only $6K per year so we are crossing our fingers that he will have some more choices. In the meantime, he is applying for scholarships like crazy! He did all the extra alumni scholarship apps for the UCs that had them and is doing a scholarship app almost every day so cross your fingers for us.

Good luck to you, too! I mainly posted because a lot of kids were saying they were finished making the Regents calls and it’s not true. I heard they will be calling right up until they announce but if you don’t get a call, it doesn’t mean you are not accepted or that you didn’t receive Regents. They just have a LOT of people to call and will run out of time before they can notify everyone by phone.

Congratulations to your son fidoprincess! And thank you for the update. UCSD is my son’s top choice and I can tell he is really stressed out. I keep hoping he will get a call, but he may just have to wait until Saturday.

takeitallin, I’ll cross my fingers for your son! I hope he gets in.
