Admissions-MidYear Grades

Application deferred pending receipt of mid-year grades. Glass half-empty or half full? Chances? Thoughts? Experiences?

Hi Panther. Did you receive the request for mid year grades by letter or email? And what were your stats? Was there any upward or downward trend in your grades?

Just curious as we’ve been waiting here 6 weeks from app date and I am wondering if its just high volume or if we will be getting a similar letter.

Rocknroll, have you called them yet? 6 weeks is definitely a long turnaround time for a rolling admissions college. Maybe they’re still missing something, they dont list of they’ve recieved supplement information on the app status page.

I have called every week - the application has been “complete” since end of September- each time I call they say we will hear in 2-3 weeks, however, its been longer than that. I even asked the guidance counselor to call and he received same answer- they must have A LOT of applications to go through and they are not necessarily processing them first come first serve

Rocknroll52: It took over 8 weeks to get a decision on my daughter’s application (she was eventually accepted, but she was starting to sweat it out too). Not sure that there is a particular rhyme or reason for how they read the apps…

Letter - junior year down from sophomore year - GPA at strong private school 3.35; 640 M, 630 V

wow that is too bad did you have one or more C’s in junior year? it would be really helpful to others if you post your grade history.

I also recieved the same letter about mid year grades.

It took over 6 weeks for me to hear back but i finally did.

My stats are a 3.1 GPA at a VERY competitive intense high school while taking honor and AP courses with an ACT score of 28.

My first quarter gpa for this year is a 3.6 UW, 3.9 weighted. Hopefully this will get me accepted, I am also going to send a second letter of rec.

@pittfan did they ask for your first semester grades or your first quarter grades?

They asked for my first semester which i will send eventually when they come out in february. For now I will send my first quarter grades.

Was the request for midyear grades sent in a letter, or was it on my.pitt.edu?

I’ll probably end up being in the same boat as you, 3.1 GPA with AP Honors and Accelerated classes, 31 ACT. Fortunately, I have a 4.0 UW this year.

3.66 first term and just got acceptance letter!

My daughter received the letter requesting mid-year grades two years ago. She had a 3.4 UW gpa and a 2000 SAT. She did very well in her first semester senior year and sent them her grades. However, she was eventually offered spring admission instead of fall. She declined and but seriously considered it.

Good luck!

Hail to Pitt!

Congrats Pantherapplicant on your acceptance and on your good grades fall semester.

Accepted !
apparently my first quarter grades were good enough because they did not wait around for the second quarter grades that they had requested. I am attending and could not be happier. My letter was dated December 23rd. Good luck too all.

congrats to you pittfan!

Pittfan, congrats on your acceptance! How long ago did you send your first quarter grades? How did you do?

My first quarter grades were sent out around November 17th. My gpa for the first quarter was a 3.6/4.0. My weighted gpa for freshman, sophomore and junior year was a 3.1/4.0 so this was a pretty large increase. I also sent an extra letter of reccomandation in November. Finally, I wrote a three paragraph email begging the school to let me in and telling them how much I love it lol. Although they did not respond to that email, I really think that was a huge help.

They want my mid year grades.
I have a 3.4 (weighted) through junior year, and got a 4.2 in my first quarter senior grades.
30 ACT, 31 superscored, 1960 SAT.
I’m anxious. :/
