Admissions Portal?

I got a confirmation email about my application to USC, but in the “required documents” section, it says that I need to submit my combined SAT or ACT score and the Common Application. Does anyone else’s say this?

I’m having the same problem actually. I sent in my scores to USC already through college board so I don’t really understand if it just takes time to process or they didn’t receive it. I even checked college board and saw that the score is supposedly delivered already.

@Ann034 Does it say that the Common App is still required?

@Ann034 How long ago did you send your scores in? Supposedly it can take up to 3 weeks for the college to process them after College Board has delivered the score.

Does anyone have “teacher recommendation” under their Received Documents section in the youSC portal? I’ve heard in the past this will show up in the list. One of my teachers was late submitting their recommendation through the Common App (did it 12/4, says it was downloaded 12/5) and I’m hoping USC will still read it. But recommendations aren’t showing up in my received docs list.

@HopingForUSC Yes. Here is my daughter’s complete list under Received Documents…

@WWWard Thanks so much! My portal updated today to show the supplement moved from required to received, so at least I know someone is looking at my application! But still no recommendations listed. Does your daughter have really good stats? I’m thinking they might do the merit reviews in steps - for example, if you have a certain standardized test score then they will look at your supplement answers, if they like those then they will look at recommendations, etc. Otherwise I’m not getting why they wouldn’t just download everything into the received section at the same time.

@HopingForUSC You’re welcome.

While my daughter’s stats are relatively strong, I do not believe that is the case. She actually applied the very first day that she could… Aug 2nd. Despite that, her portal was not fully updated until the first week of November. They did not even create it until then. They likely were just not geared up for it before then. I think that it all showed up in stages over a period of 3-4 days during that first week of November. I would not stress too much about it if in fact you submitted everything on time. In reality, their primary review period is in January most likely. A Dec 1st deadline is set because they know that items like test scores, letters of recommendation, etc. all continue to roll-in during the next week or so. And with 55K+ applications overall, USC simply does its best to update the portals as quickly as they can.

But even with everything in - in my daughter’s case - during August, her portal did not just immediately update as fully complete. It filled in over the span of a few days…

@hopingforusc the method you describe has been discussed as the UC way. USC looks at the entire application.

@WWWard & @CADREAMIN Thanks for the reassurance! I hate this! :-S

@hopingforusc you’re welcome. think positive :slight_smile:

My daughter’s recevied docs shows:

  • Academic History
  • Additional Info
  • Combined SAT Score or ACT Score
  • Combined SAT Score or ACT Score
  • Common Application
  • Official SAT or ACT Score Report
  • Supplement PDF
  • Teacher Evaluation
  • Undergraduate Application
  • Unofficial SAT Score Report

So it seems it is missing some items compared to your daughter’s @WWWard such as:

Counselor Recommendation
Coursework in Progress
High School Transcript
Letter of recommendation
Secondary School Report

I know our GC just sent the transcript and presumably the secondary school report and counselor recommendation on 12/1 so I assume they just haven’t uploaded or updated the portal?

But it also doesn’t say anything in the Required Docs section which makes me think they DO have everything?

What is the Letter of recommendation your daughter has listed as opposed to teacher evaluation? Thanks!

@CAtransplant You are probably correct. And if they are not asking you for it or reflecting it as still Required, you are likely okay… and it just has not been recorded/updated yet.

USC SCA requires three Letters of Recommendation, so she requested one from an employer / film producer she has worked for part-time… to go along with two from teachers.

@CAtransplant did your daughter apply well before the Dec. 1 date like @WWWard’s did?

Mine just says:

  • Academic History
  • Additional Info
  • Combined SAT Score or ACT Score
  • Common Application
  • Supplement PDF
  • Transcript: ******* Cmty C
  • Undergraduate Application

All my teacher and counselor recs were done through common app, so I don’t get why those aren’t on the list since it should all be downloaded at the same time. My high school transcript was sent before my community college one and that’s not showing either. And I’m not sure if they are missing my ACT score or my SAT subject tests - do you know the difference between “Combined SAT Score or ACT Score” and “Official SAT or ACT Score Report”.

@HopingForUSC no my daughter didn’t apply as early as @WWWard’s daughter. I think she submitted the app the night of Nov. 20 - they sent an email acknowledging they received her app on Nov. 22. She ordered the SAT scores around that time but they weren’t actually sent to USC until 12/1. Same for the counselor letter/school report/transcript - 12/1/ Do you see anything in your Documents Required tab? If not, then as WWWard said to me, they probably have your stuff, just haven’t updated the Documents Received yet?

Today I see two more items in my daughter’s Received list:

a THIRD entry for “- Combined SAT Score or ACT Score” and

  • Students Correspondence

I gather the latter is because she sent an email to the AO when she thought her SAT scores weren’t going to arrive by 12/1 and attached an unofficial report so that is possibly what they mean by that (though that was over a week ago she sent that). I don’t know why they have it in there three times that they have Combined SAT Score or ACT Score and then also have Unofficial SAT Score Report. She only took the SAT twice and didn’t take ACT so if anything they should only have two official SAT scores.

Anyone know what the third tab means? It has some things that are not in the Received list like “Essay”

For anyone looking at their portal and wondering how long it takes, mine now says:

  • Academic History
  • Additional Info
  • Combined SAT Score or ACT Score
  • Common Application
  • Counselor Recommendation
  • High School Transcript
  • Secondary School Report
  • Supplement PDF
  • Teacher Evaluation
  • Transcript: ******* Cmty C
  • Undergraduate Application

So, it took 10 days for mine to show the rec’s from my Common App and my high school transcript. I’m still missing a rec and another CC transcript. They’re working hard over there to get caught up, including over the weekend!
