do you guys think admissions this year will be a crap shoot like it was last year? i read about people with 1400s and 4.4 GPAs being rejected........

depends who you ask. a good starting point is the mid 50% range. Admissions reps at UF told us that obviously there are some kids who fall above the mid 50% range and get rejected and there are some kids who fall below the mid 50% range and get accepted.

How is this so? Well UF will tell you (although many on this board will disagree) that they take a "holistic" approach toward analyzing your application. This would include looking at all attributes in your application profile. This would ofcourse include your GPA and SAT/ACT, but your essay, community service, ec's etc.

The ranking for UF really didn't change all that much this year, nor did its freshman profile. I would say that with so many kids applying, it will be a challenging year to say the least to gain admission. We are from new york and many have said that our son will have an even more difficult time because he is from oos. Others have said that being oos helps, as UF is looking for more revenue sources.

who knows. good luck to you. apply as soon as you can if you haven't already done so. My son found the application to be rather difficult to fill out, but got it done back in July.
