I'm new to the college scene and I'm entering my sophomore year next year and I came across Brown and I loved the school. All the independence that the school gives, the students that attend it, and the area. I barely found out it was an Ivy League from my counselor and told me only a select few get in due to the competition..

And, I was wondering, does the CollegeConfidential community have any tips for admissions on Brown, and in general? I would appreciate greatly.

Some information of me:

I'm Laotian
And one more question, if your parents aren't married, do I count my father only or both of my parents?
If only my father : 43k without tax taken off
If both parents : I don't know the figure of my mother's income, but I would say 60-70k altogether.
I live in Santa Ana, California

I thank you again, I appreciate it!(:

You can find this and much more on the Brown forum.

Look into Questbridge! Its a program for low income students that helps you get into college. Google it and check out their website. Brown is a partner school and it might help you stand out in the applicant pool.

Brown, more than other top schools, looks for fit: are you a self-directed learner who makes his own opportunities, rather than just joining whatever your high school makes available to you? Not everyone can thrive under the open curriculum, so Brown looks for evidence that you are sometimes willing and able to set your own path.

My son received a customized letter from his admissions committee advocate at Brown, not long after he was accepted. In it, she specifically mentioned his innovative self-designed community service project and his decision to self-study for 4 additional AP classes, in addition to those offered at his school. His exceptional academic stats were not mentioned at all.

Yes we all know about your perfect son Lorem, you mention him in many of your posts…

Questbridge? Okay, I’ll look into it, it seems like a great opportunity. Thank you drumwriter22.

And Lorem, I was thinking of self-study for AP Art History, AP Computer Science A, AP Environmental Science (Always wanted to take it, but I “don’t meet the grade requirement”), AP Macroeconomics, maybe AP Microeconomics, AP Comparative Gov’t & Politics, AP World History and AP Latin:Vergil. The list is not official yet. And, I’m kind of skeptical on AP Latin:Vergil. Is anyone familiar with the AP exam for Latin:Vergil?

Thanks you guys. The help is greatly appreciated.

@LoremIpsum, what was his community service project related to and how did he come up with the idea?
