Admissions to UCI rescinded, appeal denied

As stated in the title, I just had my admissions appeal to UCI denied and I would like some insight from you guys regarding possible routes to take. I've always been a good student with a strong academic record to back it up, however my senior year did not go so well because of familial issues. I am currently enrolling in a California community college and I want to know if UC sophomore-level transfers are possible. I currently have 26.6 semester credits at De Anza Foothill College in the form of AP course credits. Can you guys give me an outline of the steps I need to take in order to transfer into a UC as a sophomore? I really want to be able to experience the college lifestyle away from home. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

This is a question you should absolutely address to the Da Anza transfer office. They’re the ones who are going to have the most accurate information.

And make sure, in the meantime, that you do whatever you need to do in order to maintain your Cal Grant eligibility.

Good luck to you!!!

It’s extremely possible to able to transfer in 1 year because you have so many AP units. You’ll only need another 34 CC units. You can definitely do that in 2 semester and a summer. But this only depends on the major. If you’re thinking of doing some sort of STEM major, then there’s probably no way to finish all the prerequisites in a year; there’s just too many.

What major do you have in mind?

So if you really want to transfer as a sophmore you should definitely try, but don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t work out. If this is the case, why not put in your time at CC, and get really good grades because as you say you are a good student who just ran into some problems. That way when you apply to transfer as a junior, you will have a shot at the top UCs, and you will end up in an even better situation than you started. I know you said you really want the college lifestyle, but sometimes you just have to adapt. I’m not telling you to give up on transferring as a sophmore, especially if UCI really is your dream school. But if not, I would take a shot at UCLA or Cal. But yeah with more information about your major and such people could give you better advice.

De Anza/Foothill is currently in a quarter system. I don’t know if the credits you have is in the form of semester or quarter, but if it is in the form of semester your credit count will be 39.9 quarter credits. And to transfer you need to complete 90 credits. Go to assist.org and pick a UC along with your major and also go to the De Anza website and look at the IGETC pattern. Your goal should be to finish the IGETC pattern along with your major pre-reqs, since that will be used to determine your transfer eligibility along with your GPA.

If the credits you have is in the form of semester then you’ll need 50.1 quarter credits to transfer. But if it is actually in the form of quarter credits(assuming you mixed the two up) then you’ll need 63.4 credits, which is pretty difficult to do.

The UCs are not doing sophomore transfers(as far as I’m aware) but you can still possibly transfer in one year with junior standings, it really depends on your major and how many credits you can manage. If you went to Monta Vista or Lynbrook (and did about average) I can tell you that you should be able to manage a 20 quarter credit schedule, and if you didn’t doesn’t mean you can’t handle it. Considering you took around 4-5 aps(?) you should be able to manage.

And really don’t stress too much on “college life”, you’re not going to be doing beer pong every night most UCs anyway, you gotta go to CSUs for that.

What’s your major and what’s your intended UC?
