Admissions

Hi!

I applied to RPI regular decision for class of 2022 and am very nervous! I applied for the school of engineering hoping to major in mechanical engineering. I am an Asian female with a 4.0 GPA unweighted. I have a heavy AP course load, and am in the top 10% of my class. I also have four years of PLTW courses under my belt, and studied engineering in my high school through their application only Magnet Program. My SAT scores weren’t so hot, so I didn’t send them, but my ACT was a 28. I am very worried because I feel as if I can compete with all other applicants except for my test scores :frowning: (I had a very hard time getting them up). My extra curricular activities are decent with a four year varsity in womens lacrosse, and my essay talked about being adopted, growing up in a family that is a different race than you.
If anyone could try to ease my nervous soul, it would be great! I really wish to go to this school and continue my education. I was accepted into Illinois Institute of Technology with a pretty heavy scholarship, and will go there if RPI won’t have me (although I hope they do)!
Thanks,
Nervous applicant

Honestly, it’s pretty difficult to say if someone gets in. I’d say you have a shot - your ACT score is in the 25th percentile, but they consider a lot more in admissions than your test scores. Your class rank and ECs will definitely help! If you do get in and have any questions about RPI let me know.

Do not be nervous. You sound like a well rounded and well prepared applicant. Schools today seem to be taking a more holistic approach to the application process. You are much more than a test score. My son applied as a RD applicant and we are excited for 3/10. Whatever happens I have a good feeling you will call RPI home in the future.

@love2teach such a lovely response, thank you for giving theses kids hope, good luck to your son, I am looking forward for tomorrow. I am so excited, I hope my son to gets the good news.

Thank you. I wish your son all the best. I called admissions and they confirmed 7pm on the 10th, an email will b sent to instruct you to check the portal. My son fell in love with RPI during his first visit on feb break in 10th grade. This has been quite a long journey.

Thank you so much for your response! They get back to me tomorrow and I’m so nervous refreshing my email every second. Lol!

Less then 24 hours guys, good luck to all…
