I would think that among the most important draws of admit weekend is meeting your future peers and really establishing your social standing/networks early on.

S will be coming up from San Clemente with the parental units. Sounds too fun to miss.

I only was at admit weekend for half a day, and I really only got to meet one guy besides my roho and hoho.

Anyways I don’t think it was too big of a deal that I missed out socially. Yeah some people become good friends, but you’re probably going to make better friends in your dorm anyways. Having really good friends outside your dorm is generally difficult.

Worried about missing school :X Is it okay if I just go on the last day? Are free T-shirts really given out? Will I miss a lot if I don’t go the first two days, because that would mean having to skip school Wednesday to travel up to San Jose, and then Thursday, and Friday as well. :X

spoken like a true stanford admit

I understand where you’re coming from, Gambatte, but I believe your teachers will be forgiving in terms of tests and assignments if you’re visiting and potentially attending Stanford. If you’re worried about catching up, work ahead and save minimal work for the time afterwards.

Or, try arranging a plan so you can leave after school on Wednesday, so you only miss two days of school…If you want to attend, there’s a way to make it work.

I am going to Admit Weekend, but I was wondering if a host and/or current Stanford student could tell me what the pros/cons are of staying in a culture themed house vs. not? Also, if our parents come, will they meet our hosts?

I will be flying in from Georgia. Stanford sent me a travel grant to cover my airfare. So my question is: Should my parents come? I mean, surely they would want to see the college that I may be going to (What am I saying? “will almost definitely be going to”), but we will have to come up with money for two more plane tickets. I’ve seen some people saying that you shouldn’t bring your parents anyway, so what would be the best course of action?

Gambattee- YOU’RE IN AT STANFORD!!! missing one or two days of school should be your reward
after hearing i got in on friday, i think i might get a late on-set case of senioritis. hahah

unfortunately, i cant attend admit weekend on the 22nd-24th i don’t wanna miss out on all the fun and meeting people, but i have a funeral to attend.

But i can’t wait for next fall!!!

what are the dates?

I assume we’ll be sharing room with the host? Do we need to bring sleeping bags, bath towels, etc?

Anyone up for walking around San Francisco on Sunday before heading home?

Gah, how I’d love to take advantage of my few days in California! But I guess there will be time for that soon enough. =D

@ theweester- Admit Weekend is from April 22-24.

@ stanford21- Yes, you will most likely be in a double with two RoHos and a fellow ProFro. No, the doubles aren’t big enough to fit four beds, so you’ll need to bring sleeping bags, towels, anything else that you’ll need (kind of like a sleepover).

I am wondering how do we meet our RoHos amidst thousands of students???

@tophopeful- You will register first at a registration table, where your House Hosts (HoHos, the hosts for the dorms) will be nearby to meet and pick you guys up. Afterwards, you’ll get a chance to meet with your RoHos.

My son will be attending admit weekend on his own. Does anyone know if the school runs a shuttle bus from campus to SFO on Sunday morning? I’d imagine that many will need to get to the airport. I know that one can take the train or cab to the airport so that will be his backup plan.

Try the supershuttle. You can arrange online to be picked up at a specific address and time and its pretty reasonable. The caltrain is easy too, but he’d have to walk to the train station with all of his stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion. We used the Supershuttle when touring schools in the LA area and it worked out very well. It would be more convenient than carrying gear to the train station and etc. Can anyone suggest a good place on campus for a Supershuttle pickup on Sunday morning, that might be convenient to the host dorms?

the marguerite (campus shuttle) goes to the caltrain station

According to my daughter, who’s a junior, the Margarite (sp?) shuttle bus is entirely useless. Every time she has tried to take it it either doesn’t come or it isn’t clear which way it’s going (it makes different loops of the campus depending on where you are - asking the driver hasn’t helped - something I don’t understand but there you have it)
I wouldn’t want to rely on it to catch a train to the airport.
Maybe you could have your son call you when he gets there and knows the dorm he will be in - then you or he could find the street address and make the reservation. I think it costs about $25.00 (taxi to SFO will run around $80).
