African- Americans who got into elite colleges.

right now ima junior and i wanted to go either

Stanford, UCLA, UCB, USD, UCI,USC. Jus those six. OK so im african- american. i jus wanna kno any otha blacks who got into these schools

first 3 schools are the major ones
my stats so far

GPA: 4.4 un weighted
AP's: AP Euro-3, AP Chem, AP Physics B

Class Schedule: always took Honors whenever possible

SAT: 1650 on the first one neva studied jus plan to get it to like 2100 or so..

EC: Young Black Scholars, Black Student Union, FBLA(will hold some minor position next yr), CSF,
Activities: 9th grade- Skull Island, also took AP euro then
Community service: 200 hrs or so...

Awards: Varsity Letter Award for Academics, freshmen yr and sophomore yr, 4th place at FBLA sectionals for Technology Concepts

Reccomendations: At least two from AP physics B teacher and AP chem teacher, will try for AP Euro Teacher

Essay: basically sumthing that will get a tremoundous emotional effect from the admissions officer.

anything else that you would like to kno jus ask I wanna see if i can apply for early decision for sum of these schools.

Your GPA is great, although I'm not sure how yo have a 4.4 UW. Is that still equivalent to straight A's? A 1650 will hurt extremely badly, especially since the UC's don't allow much help for affirmative action. What I mean by this is a 1650 is below the average of all of the UC's and you won't get much of a boost. However, UCI and UCSD are still possible among the UC's. With a 2100, both Berkeley and UCLA will be realistic but not for sure and UCSD/UCI will be near certain.

You will get an AA boost at Stanford and USC, but a 1650 is still too low to be accepted to either, although USC is possible. If you really do manage a 2100, you will be accepted to USC and possibly to Stanford (although Stanford would still be unlikely).

gohansdemise:

UCB/UCLA: Reach
UCI: Match

4.4 is like wat i have right now.. jus taking 4 honors classes each yr which are worth 5 points instead of 4. so i should be gettinga 4.6 w/ straight A's which i dont have.

also doing pre-med....

URM status means nothing at the UCs.
I think that a 1650 is to low for an URM to be able to look at Stanford.

Get the 2100 first then ask...a 1650 is not helping at all.

If you're WEIGHTING honors courses, it is not an UNWEIGHTED GPA. On any note, with a 1650, Stanford, UCLA, and UCB are very big reaches. With a 2100, Stanford would be a reach and UCB and UCLA would be slight reaches.

Actually, I think you will be solid for the UCs on your list if you can get your SAT to 1950 or better.

bump bump ***

What's your class rank like?

It's impossible to have a 4.4 unweighted GPA

my bad, my high school gpa is 4.4, my rank is 14/931

Go Africa! Power To Black America!

Wow, that's a great rank in a HUGE high school. Your class is more than 900 kids? Excelling in such a big group should make you very appealing to good colleges. Good luck.

My class is 982...i'm sure we're up to 1,000 by now though

Having 1000 students in ONE class is very scary.

Was that 1650 a typo? Did you mean 1550 old SAT or something. If not, you need to do some serious work on your SATs. Also, I'd work on AP tests. Get a practice book with practice tests. Like Barrons. Your grades are pretty good.

I'll look at what the scholarly blacks at my school got into and give you their stats:

Kid #1:
1720 SAT
3.3 GPA
into: Emory and CMU

Kid #2:
1950 SAT
3.7 GPA
into: Harvard, Yale, Brown

Kid #3:
1890 SAT
3.4 GPA
into: Hopkins

Kid #4:
2050 SAT
3.6 GPA
into: Duke, Penn, Vanderbilt, Wash U

So there you go.

thanks alot for the feedback... yea unfortunately my score was so low because of the writing part i scored an 8 on the essay yet i scored like 460 on the MC part.. my fault for guessing and assuming too much.
