DS just called to let me know he has been offered a scholarship thru AFROTC. So the results of the first board are in. He said the website doesn’t say which type of scholarship - so he’ll have to wait for the snail mail notification. That should give him some food for thought over the Christmas break. HO HO HO

Congrats! What school is it for? So he has an appointment and the scholarship, right?

Notthemomma,

Congrats to your son! I don't envy you as we went through this last year and it made our whole house nuts. It's great to have the options.
Good luck.

Thanks. The AFROTC scholarships are for any college that has an AFROTC detachment and has the degree the scholarship is offered for.

He's been admitted to The Citadel and VMI and is waiting on Stanford, Berkeley (one word: rugby), Texas A&M and VT.

momoftwins - I hear you. It's already started as the college viewbooks are lined up in the family room again. His eyes are glazed over - now that $$ won't really be an issue in the decision.

Wow, good luck on TAMU, out of state is ridiculously hard to get into cause of the top 10% rule here.

TAMU was my first choice ROTC college here. That ROTC program looks preety good there.

Hornetguy - you're right - I think only about 3% of the students are from out of state. TAMU has been high on the list after going to their summer rugby camp a couple of times. He really had a blast with what he described as "loud, obnoxious and crazy Texans". In a respectful way. He hasn't spent a night with the Corp yet - I think he goes late January - so we'll see how he fits in. Maybe AFA has a more manageable amount of Texans to deal with....

Gig 'em

LOL, Nothemomma, you crack me up. Yipee!! :D

I wouldn't count on it, Nothemomma. At SS in one of the briefings, they asked all the Texans to raise their hands. About half the people in the auditorium not only raised their hands but also erupted with cheers and comments of how Texas should take over all the other states and name the Texas #2-50!

texas_falcon...I vividly remember that

The population of Texas people at SS was ridiculous

Add that to the floridians...and that's 90 percent of the people there.

Yep - son told me about the Texas contingent at SS. Isn't the AFA located in "North" Texas anyway? Still not the same as being a non-Texan at A&M. Although I liked Dixie Chicken and Freebirds - good eats. Put on a cowboy hat and an Aggie T-shirt and who knows????

Lol, if you're gonna wear the cowboy hat, be sure you have on boots, jeans, and not a t-shirt (usually a button down collared shirt).

It's pretty easy to spot people who aren't from Texas but want to pretend like they are when they are here. They are the ones walking around with a 10 gallon fake Stetson with an un-curved up brim, white tennis shoes with tall socks, and a shirt that says "everythings bigger in Texas". lol.

Here in CO we call that sort of person "all hat and no cattle"...

Does the size of the belt buckle matter?

"All hat and no cattle" - Laughing so hard I'm cryin'....

heartcross - I guess you're used to puttin' up with Texans.

Yup--Texans sort of pay the bills around here..between skiing and hunting...

What can I say, all that oil pays the bills here. ;) However, I must say I do laugh at all the Texan accents around me, considering I never had one. :D
