ARE ALL POST OFFICES CLOSED ON JAN 1st?!!

i don't know, but if the deadline is tomorrow don't worry about it, b/c if it is tomorrow is the deadline as much as it isn't, what i mean is that if you don't get it sent until monday no big deal, for ED they waited until the 11th to check if you had everything, and if you didn't, they sent you a notice telling you that somehow it was lost and they haven't received it yet, and that you needed to send it in, so if it is closed jan 1st don't worry, you still have plenty of time, plus i doubt they notice the postmark, and also a person that sent it in a week ago could have it arrive later than yours due to how mail travels sometimes, don't worry, good luck

psquared-- YOU ARE MY HERO!!
that is exactly what i needed to hear!!
but still, im scared to take any chances.. it does say POSTMARKed by JAn 1st.
and although my apps are ready on paper should i just apply online and then send it in later too?? ahh im so freaking mad at myself!

is there absolutely no way to get mail postmarked tomorrow?!

no.. no mailing services at all tomorrow.

Yeah, I agree with psquared. I'm sure it's not a significant problem at all. Besides, the people that open up the mail are probably assistants that have absolutely no influence in your admissions decision. I highly doubt that they would take the time to note that your application was postmarked Jan 2nd instead of Jan 1st. Take the extra time to polish up your essays and short answers. Good luck! :)

thanks jenz :/
im kinda scared to take that chance though..
although i agree about the point that its probably assistants who dont even notice the postmark date. but maybe they're asked to specifically note it?!
ugh im so mad at myself!

If you're qualified enough, they'll let you in. If not, they won't take you. Its as simple as that....as long as the materials arrive in time for them to evaluate them, you should be fine.

im not concerned with the admissions decision right now, what im concerned about is if theyd even consider evaluating my application if it wasnt postmarked on the 1st

so this whole thing actually turned out ok,
i never realized that doing it all online is so simple and effective.
one ques. though
i dont see the essays form in any online version. does that mean sending it in by regular mail is the only option??
if it is.. then i have no choice but just sending it out on monday because theres no way it will be postmarked by jan 1st :(

also, anyone know of a way to pay the app fee online??

Yes - under the Supplements form tab on the Common App there is a link in the table that allows you to pay it on line.

Why is the postmark deadline today if there's no postmarking at all today?

i still cant find the site.. :/

OH MAN I HAD THE SAME PRobleM WAKIng UP ON JAN 1st...and realizing that the post office is closed!!!!!!!!!! ......i hope u guys are right....

yess! sean11!! im not alone! :)
so what are you going to do man

dude, the only thing we can do, send all the stuff that can be sent in online TODAY....and then on monday, when the post office is open, send in the rest

yeah thats what i did
ive already sent in part I online

i guess i can send in the commapp online too

but that essays form, i guess its just gonna be postmarked jan. 3rd.. :/
oh and let me know if you find a way to pay the app fee online
goodluck

oh for cornell, i send in the app fee with part 1.....but i think you can send in the fee with the app online, i saw a "make payment" option in the common app, where it says like page 1, page 2, college list, submit, and then like make payment, but if not, send it in on jan 3rd.....goodluck to you too

heh, my dad caught me yesterday and told me there's no post marknig today...so I rushed to get the essays perfect, etc. lol, blah
