Aime

Anyone else take the aime today? I thought it was a tad easier than in previous years- pretty sure I got a 9. Too bad it'll be too late to tell schools by the time official scores are out. And too bad I didn't do so hot on the amc so i won't be making the usamo this year.

How'd ya other mit hopefuls do?

I took the AIME today. It was definitely easier than last year's. I think I got a 5, not sure though. I bet the score required for USAMO this year's gonna be super high because many people would have done well on AIME.

Do you guys study for the thing? or are just natrually good at math?

I took the AIME and it was cut short cuz snow hit and the school wouldn't let us stay. So i only got 1 done :( ...

i don't know, i took the aime last year, and thought it was easier last year than this year, oh well, but not that i expect a high score on it, if i get like half of the ones i answered i would be estatic

I thought it was about the same difficulty as last year. I think I got an 11 or 12.

streetlight - that's terrible. Were there any potential USAMO Qualifiers at your school? We were a little worried here, but the storm held off until late afternoon. I wonder how many other schools were affected by the weather.

streetlight - How much time elapsed before the exam was stopped? If it was a lot less than 3 hours, your teacher should not send in the answer sheets from today without calling AMC to ask about trying again on the alternate date.

i thought it was a lot better than last year's - but i won't be an USAMO qualifier....

I believe there's an AIME II that you can take at a later date. I only got a 3 today, stupid stupid mistakes. But until last year i had never even heard of this stuff, so i'm pretty new to it.

What do you think the cut off index score will be for the USAMO? Also if you take the first AIME you can't take the second one...so tell your teachers not to send those results.

I think the cutoff will be around 220, but what do i know?

Nice job 05senior. And sr- I don't study for it, but I've been doing math team for a long time.

Does anybody have answers?

When do the official results come out?

I think I got a 5. It could have been a 7, but I made two dumb mistakes.

i fell asleept through half of it!!! unintentionally!

this was my first year taking it

i was able to answer 7 (guessed my ssn and phone number on the others)

just think, each question has possible answers 000-999, so the chance of guessing one correctly is a mere 1:1000 ... however, there are 15 questions total, so anyone has a 1:1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 chance of getting a perfect score through guessing

... if my math is correct

Could any of you e-mail me the AIME problems? I will be taking the alternate one. My e-mail address is onomotopia12131@aol.com. Thanks

wow...11 or 12!?!?!?
that's ...crazy!
Good luck to all though. I thought it was harder than other years (I solved about 9 and pretty sure I got at least 2 wrong)

I would advise we do not discuss AIME until noon EST Mar 10, not to mention sharing AIME questions. The following message by AMC director has been posted on the Art of Problem Solving Forum.

As usual with the AMC contests, please no discussion of the problems, solutions, or ease/difficulty of the March 8, 2005 AIME until noon EST, March 10 to give all schools world-wide a chance to finish.

You cooperation is appreciated and best of problem-solving to all the participants!

Yeah, it was def easier than last year. I probably got 10 or so, which is like double what I got last year. A lot more people qualified from the amc too.
