ALEKS Chem & Calc Prep

do we need to study for the ALEKS tests?
if not, can we keep retaking them until we get the 70?
do we have to pay every time we take it?
is there a time limit? how difficult are they?

thanks

For the calc one: If you know trig, adding, subtracting, & cross multiplying with variables, logs, exponents, how to graph various equations, and other basic pre-cal formulas, you should be ok. You can retake it as many times as you like until you get a 70, but you have to pay $10 each time you take it. There is no time limit, but how long you take on a problem does effect the types of problems you will get in the future I believe. It is not too difficult if you did well in pre-cal, and if you took calculus in high school you should be ok. The only problem is a lot of it has to do with pre-cal, so if you don’t remember it, it might seem kind of hard. If you take it once or twice and have not passed with a 70% I would highly recommend buying the learning modules. My friend did this after she failed twice and she did the learning modules and passed the next time she took the test. :]

thank you  where do u get the learning modules?

ALEKS was a pain especially because of all the sig figs…
If you take the test and get a low score, just complete the modules until you are past the 70% mark.

There are quizzes along the way, but they are extremely easy if you have been paying attention to what ALEK teaches you.

Good luck

PS: I think most chem teachers are using ALEKS in the fall, so you will have a lot (yes, I mean a lot) of fun.

The learning modules will be on the same page that says something along the lines of “Take the Assessment” on the ALEKS page once you put in your uteid. If you buy it before you take the first test it’s $50, but if you take the test first, fail it, and then buy it, it’s only $30 (or maybe $40, but I’m pretty sure it’s $30).
Your welcome. :D
