I just had my alumni interview yesterday! Went to a coffee shop and had a great conversation for MUCH longer than a half hour. My interviewer was even in the field that I'm interested, with the same major/activities at Midd, and so it was great.

I had done an on-campus interview with a senior interviewer on campus, and I didn't think it went terribly well...so the fact that this one was so awesome is especially exciting, since Middlebury is one of my absolute favorite schools. :) Good luck to everyone else who's still in the process of being contacted!

Don't worry if you don't get an interview request/Middlebury doesn't contact you about an interview. I applied ED and never had an alumni interview, and I was still accepted :)

I had my Middlebury interview yesterday and it extremely well.
Bits and pieces:

Her: So what other schools are you applying to? Name some (holds a pen, ready to write them down.)
Me: (not really comfortable with revealing them, trying to play safe) Um..you know..some LACs...like Oberlin and Colgate
Her: Oh! I too applied to those too!
I smile

Her: So what are some aspects about Middlebury you really like?
Me: Well, I like it's strong in languages. I definitely want to continue with French and Russian.
Her: Yes...I see what you mean. I too studied French and Russian in Middlebury. You're definitely on the right path
Me: (Smiling again)

Me: So I took a univeristy course in national defence and foreign policy
Her: Oh, who was you professor?
Me: *******
Her: Oh yes, I know her, we work in the same building
(Not to mention my interviewer is a reseacher of foreign policy and I want to major in political science.)

just had my interview two hours ago - it was great!! and my interviewer goes to my church (i didn't know it because his kids aren't in middle school or high school youth groups yet). it was pretty interesting. he said that he had a 5-year strea where no one he interviewed was admitted, but now things are better and he's had kids get admitted - hope i'm one of them!! good luck to those who still have to interview - have fun!

Again, I repeat, again the interview is not a part of the admissions process. If you do not get an interview, it will not affect your decision :S

i would love to talk to someone about midd. i like it. vermont, there's where they make ben & jerry's. i am now frantic trying to put together the financial info that they require of me (just sent me the request), and i hope it's worth it come feb 7.

Then I guess that the alumni interview form that each interviewer fills out and sends to the admissions office to be read and included with the applicant's file means nothing at all (note sarcasm).

If the website and every other source says that they don't take the interview into consideration, I wouldn't try and overanalyze that as a backhanded way to throw out half the applicants. I can attest to this as I did NOT get contacted for an interview I was still accepted EDI. The website even says that it's only for your own benefit and for you to learn more about Middlebury, so if it really could affect your decision I'm SURE they would have scheduled interviews for everyone.

Look, I'm just trying to save some of you from the extra stress I went through but if you don't want to listen then okay o_o

a personal example, i'm from turkey, and during my time as an early decision 1 applicant they couldn't reach any alums, so i didn't have an alumni interview although i requested one. i got in nevertheless. if you have one on your file, they look at it, but if you don't, then it's no big deal, especially if you wanted one and they couldn't find anyone to do it.
