Alumni relation?

So I'm going to visit Ann Arbor this spring (as a junior) and I had 2 grandparents that went there (one passed away when I was really young so I didn't know him but my grandma is still alive and well). It's my second choice school as of now but I was just wondering if you think being related to alums help your application much. My cousin, who I thought was pretty smart didn't get in there three years ago so I was just wondering. I think my stats are decently solid anyway I was just wondering because its a public university. Thanks!

it usually helps a little bit, but idk if it will help at all given that your grandparents attended (vs. parents)

It helps a lot more at schools like Harvard.
Michigan is more merit-based because of the large number of applicants.

Ah ok that’s what I figured! So I mean I have a bad cummulative gpa b/c I pretty much got straight Bs almost freshman and soph year. This year, first semester, I had straight As except 1 B. And so far second semester: beautifully straight As (all my classes have been honors or AP all thru HS).

Last year a 5 on the APUS exam. This year I’m in AP Chem and World. So far I’ve got a 32 on the ACT, hopefully going to bring up my reading score (from a 26 yikes!) so I can get closer to a 34. Getting my SATs back in a few days. But is that solid merit? That with some good recs and a helluva lot of ECs?

Chill out man! I got a C+ and a B- in two AP classes in my sophomore year and managed to get into Ross without any impressive extracurriculars or hooks.

Haha alright haha I’m just really disappointed with my freshman and sophomore year efforts. I could’ve done way better
